L’ENFER DES CANAUX IS APPROACHING

THE COURSE
L’Enfer des Canaux will take competitors from Aire-sur-la-Lys to Warneton over 52 km. The course includes five locks and several portages ranging from 100 to 250 metres.
The final portage, approximately 1.5 km long, will include trailer assistance for transporting boards and other craft. Timing will be paused during this section.

ON-SITE REGISTRATION
On-site registration will be available:
Friday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm;
Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
Entry fees must be paid in cash.

ACCOMMODATION AND EQUIPMENT
A municipal campsite is located next to the harbour in Aire-sur-la-Lys. A secure garage will also be available for storing boards and other craft overnight.

SHUTTLE TO THE START
Participants without a personal support crew may leave their car at the finish in Warneton on Saturday morning. A shuttle will then take them back to the start.
However, all boards, craft and equipment must be dropped off in Aire-sur-la-Lys beforehand.
Important: if you wish to use the shuttle, you must inform us in advance so that we can provide enough seats.

START AND RANKINGS
Competitors will paddle together to the starting line, located downstream from the Fort Gassion lock. The race will begin once everyone is correctly positioned.
This first edition will count as both the Belgian and French Ultra Long Distance Championships. An overall scratch ranking will also include competitors of all nationalities and canoe-kayak paddlers.
Assistance will be provided when getting out of and back into the water, with floating pontoons installed at the most difficult locations.
L’Enfer des Canaux already looks set to become a legendary race. Be among the first to write its history.

LE PARCOURS
L’Enfer des Canaux reliera Aire-sur-la-Lys à Warneton sur 52 km. Le parcours comprend cinq écluses et plusieurs portages de 100 à 250 mètres.
Le dernier portage, d’environ 1,5 km, bénéficiera d’une assistance avec remorque pour le transport des planches et embarcations. Le chronométrage sera neutralisé pendant ce passage.

INSCRIPTIONS SUR PLACE
Les inscriptions sur place seront possibles :
le vendredi de 16 h à 21 h ;
le samedi de 7 h à 8 h.
Le paiement devra être effectué en espèces.

HÉBERGEMENT ET MATÉRIEL
Un camping municipal se trouve juste à côté du port d’Aire-sur-la-Lys. Un garage fermé sera également disponible pour entreposer les planches et embarcations pendant la nuit.

NAVETTE VERS LE DÉPART
Les participants sans assistance personnelle pourront déposer leur voiture à l’arrivée, à Warneton, le samedi matin. Une navette les ramènera ensuite au départ.
Votre matériel devra toutefois avoir été déposé au préalable à Aire-sur-la-Lys.
Attention : si vous souhaitez utiliser la navette, vous devez impérativement nous en informer à l’avance afin que nous puissions prévoir suffisamment de places.

DÉPART ET CLASSEMENTS
Les participants rejoindront ensemble la ligne de départ, située en aval de l’écluse de Fort Gassion. Le départ sera donné dès que tout le monde sera positionné.
Cette première édition comptera comme Championnat de Belgique et Championnat de France Ultra Longue Distance. Un classement scratch réunira également les participants de toutes les nationalités ainsi que les rameurs en canoë-kayak.
Nous prévoyons une assistance aux sorties et remises à l’eau, avec des pontons flottants aux endroits les plus difficiles.
L’Enfer des Canaux semble déjà destiné à rejoindre la courte liste des courses mythiques. Soyez parmi les premiers à écrire son histoire.

BELGIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS RESCHEDULED: SAVE THE DATE
The Belgian Championship Long Distance in Antwerp and the Belgian Championship Sprint in Hazewinkel were both postponed due to cyanobacterial blooms, commonly known as blue-green algae.
The Belgian SUP Tour has now decided to bring both championships together on Sunday, 4 October, in Nieuwpoort.
The Battle of the Yser will host the Belgian Championship Long Distance, while the Belgian Championship Sprint will also take place that same day.
This promises to be one of the major highlights of the season for both the Belgian SUP Tour and the BeNeSUP Tour.
Further details, including the schedule and race courses, will be announced soon. For now, save the date and get ready for a full day of top-level SUP racing in Nieuwpoort.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: BELGIAN SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIPS POSTPONED

Unfortunately, the Belgian Sprint Championships scheduled to take place in Hazewinkel on Saturday, 5 September, cannot go ahead due to the presence of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

This is the second consecutive Belgian Championship event affected, following the cancellation of last week’s Belgian Long Distance Championships in Antwerp for the same reason.

Both championships will be rescheduled as part of the Battle of the Yser in Nieuwpoort:

Belgian Sprint Championships

The revised programme and all practical information for the event in Nieuwpoort will be communicated at a later stage.

The BST deeply regrets that two beautiful rounds of the tour, including two Belgian Championships, have had to be postponed. We also sincerely apologise to everyone whose weekend plans have once again been disrupted.

In Antwerp, we agreed with the local authorities to wait as long as reasonably possible before making a final decision. For Hazewinkel, however, we already know with certainty that permission for SUP competitors to enter the water will not be granted. There is therefore no reason to delay this announcement.

The BST will learn from these exceptional circumstances and will take this new reality into account when preparing its 2027 calendar.

IMPORTANT UPDATE — ACTIVITIES IN ANTWERP ARE GOING AHEAD

The Belgian SUP Tour is deeply disappointed that this weekend’s races had to be cancelled because of the continued presence of blue-green algae.

The decision came so late because we genuinely believed—and hoped—that the algae would disappear in time to allow the competition to proceed safely.

However, all the other activities taking place as part of Eilandje in Beweging will go ahead as planned. So, if you still want to enjoy a vibrant weekend in Antwerp, come and experience the exceptional atmosphere on shore!

We deeply regret the cancellation. Both the location and the competition are exceptional, and we will explore the possibility of organising the event again at a time of year when there is no risk of blue-green algae.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT — EVENT CANCELLED

We regret to announce that this weekend’s competition in Antwerp must be cancelled due to the continued presence of blue-green algae.
The authorities waited until the last possible moment before making their final decision, allowing every possible chance for the event to proceed safely. Unfortunately, on the eve of what promised to be an exceptional weekend of racing, we have no choice but to cancel both:
• The Belgian Long Distance Championships on Saturday
• The Technical Race on Sunday
A new date for the Belgian Long Distance Championships will be announced as soon as possible.

The Technical Race scheduled for Sunday is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

On behalf of WWSV, the Belgian SUP Tour, Alenders vzw and the local authorities and all of whom made every effort to enable the event to go ahead, we sincerely apologise to every athlete, partner, volunteer and supporter affected by this last-minute cancellation. We fully understand the disappointment and inconvenience this decision may cause.

THE FOUR SEASONS OF THE LONGEST DAY (Part two)
In the team competition, “Les Cowboys” finished fourth and secured the overall 2026 Double 10 team title. In the final men’s standings, Morgan Benard was crowned the Double 10 champion, ahead of Kris Deleu and Tim Verbraeken. In the women’s standings, Catherine Salignoc claimed the 2026 title for the second consecutive year, followed by Martine Lambrechts and Suzanne Den Hollander.
Thank you to all the paddlers, teams, volunteers and supporters who made this edition such a success. See you next year for the third Double 10!
The complete results are attached. To produce a consistent table containing an individual time for every participant, each DNS or DNF entry was replaced by the maximum lap time of 1:10:00.
If you took any photos, please send them to me so I can gather them all and make them available to everyone. I took hundreds myself… unfortunately, my camera had no memory card… A photographic report on absolutely nothing.
