AMUNDSEN RACE TO HOST WORLD SLEDDOG ASSOCIATION LONG DISTANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2027
The organizing committee of the Amundsen Race (AR) and the World Sleddog Association (WSA) are delighted to announce that in 2027, AR 250 will serve as the WSA’s Long Distance World Championship for purebred sled dogs.
Starting in Strömsund, Sweden, the Amundsen Race is widely respected for its demanding course and remote wilderness setting. The event challenges mushers and their dog teams with extended distances, variable terrain, and the unpredictable conditions of the Scandinavian winter.
“We are very excited to be hosting the WSA Long Distance World Championship in 2027,” said Edmond Schoemacher, Race Director of the Amundsen Race. “That the WSA entrusts us with their long-distance world championship reflects the dedication of our team, volunteers, and community, and the quality of the race we have built over the years. We look forward to welcoming the best mushers and their purebred teams to Strömsund in 2027.”
The WSA selected the Amundsen Race for its proven ability to deliver a challenging and well-organized long-distance competition.
“The Amundsen Race represents everything that defines world-class long-distance mushing,” said Arno Steichler, chairman of the WSA. “Its course, organization, and commitment to the welfare of the dogs make it an ideal host for our 2027 Long-Distance World Championship.”
World championship titles will be available in the following classes: AR 250 – 8 dog class RNB1, AR250 – 8 dog class RNB2, AR 250 – 12 dog class RNB1 and AR250 – 12 dog class RNB2. The Amundsen Race will take place from 25 – 28 February 2027 with registrations opening on 4 October 2026.

Met verdriet delen wij mee dat Freddy Guillaume deze ochtend is overleden. Freddy was voormalig voorzitter van Mushing Belgium, oprichter en voorzitter van Brussels Mushing.
C'est avec tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Freddy Guillaume ce matin. Freddy était l'ancien président de Mushing Belgium, fondateur et président de Brussels Mushing.
It is with sadness that we share that Freddy Guillaume passed away this morning. Freddy was former chairman of Mushing Belgium, founder and chairman of Brussels Mushing.
De herinneringen zijn krachtiger dan het gemis. Wij wensen familie en vrienden veel sterkte en troost toe.
Les souvenirs sont plus puissants que le manque. Nous souhaitons beaucoup de courage et de réconfort à la famille et aux amis.

The Amundsen - The Mid Scandinavian Sleddog Race. Twee Belgische rookies deden mee: Olivier Gilles (Wallonie Mushing Club) is vervangen geweest door Anthony Marais voor de AR-180.
Maarten Van Cauwenberghe voor AR-350 werd eerste voor Buck de Lang (NED). Aan beiden een proficiat vanwege Mushing Belgium.
Anthony Marais eindigde op de 8 plek in de AR-180. Vanwege MBEL ook een proficiat voor deze prestatie.
In de AR-250 werd Pjotr Kerklaan (NED)derde. Ook van ons een dikke proficiat.

Deux débutants belges ont participé : Olivier Gilles (Wallonie Mushing Club) a été remplacé par Anthony Marais pour l'AR-180.
Maarten Van Cauwenberghe pour l'AR-350 est arrivé premier devant Buck de Lang (NED). Félicitations de la part de Mushing Belgium.
Anthony Marais a terminé à la 8e place dans l'AR-180. De la part de MBEL également, félicitations pour cette performance.
Dans l'AR-250, Pjotr Kerklaan (NED) a terminé troisième. Un grand bravo aussi de notre part.

Vrijdagmorgen is de start.

Dans 48 heures commencera l'Amundsen - La course de chiens de traîneau du centre de la Scandinavie. Deux débutants belges y participent : Olivier Gilles (Wallonie Mushing Club) pour AR-180, et Maarten Van Cauwenberghe pour AR-350, qui a déjà de l'expérience sur de longues distances. L'inscription et le contrôle vétérinaire sont actuellement en cours. Le départ aura lieu vendredi matin.
