Few photos from a short recce trip to Western Balkan mountains where we were looking for new locations of three very special butterflies - Bof fritillary, Violet copper and Spinose skipper. The trip was very successful and all of the target species were found in very good numbers. Stay tuned for our new program that will be out soon!

False Comma - Nymphalis vaualbum - one of the most interesting and at the same time one of the most elusive butterflies in Europe.
This boreal species occurs for a very short time in spring and early summer and can be seen lingering in the Western Balkan range mountains.

Mating pair of Little Tiger Blues (Tarucus balkanicus)
Restricted to the Southern Balkans this is one of the cutest blues, easily found in certain areas in Bulgaria.

Southern Festoon (Zerynthia polyxena) May 2022 - one of the most enigmatic Bulgarian butterflies. It is abundant in April and May in almost all Bulgaria and can be easily spotted and photographed on our early butterflies tour.
