False Comma - Nymphalis vaualbum - one of the most interesting and at the same time one of the most elusive butterflies in Europe.
This boreal species occurs for a very short time in spring and early summer and can be seen lingering in the Western Balkan range mountains.

Mating pair of Little Tiger Blues (Tarucus balkanicus)
Restricted to the Southern Balkans this is one of the cutest blues, easily found in certain areas in Bulgaria.

Southern Festoon (Zerynthia polyxena) May 2022 - one of the most enigmatic Bulgarian butterflies. It is abundant in April and May in almost all Bulgaria and can be easily spotted and photographed on our early butterflies tour.

Honey buzzard over the town of Sarafovo, Southeast Bulgaria, May 2021.
In the first half of May thousands of Honey buzzards are following one of Europe's major migratory route - Via Pontica, along the Black sea coast to head back to their breeding grounds in Central and Northern Europe.

These typical Balkan specialties come back in April and take their breeding grounds in the deciduous forests in first half of May, when they can be spotted in almost all the mountainous areas of Bulgaria.
