Hey folks! I hope you are all healthy and safe. I managed to strain my right shoulder, I am on NSAID, and that static bike will resume being used for other goals than hanging my coat and holding my gym ball. Physical trauma should not be ignored, and if you strain - know you need to give yourself time and proper treatment - unless you fancy chronic pain.

We from Workout Revolution send our prayers to the people of Turkey and Syria, and our deep condolences to those who loved their loved ones. 🖤🙏🍀

Social needs: belonging

Sick day today. So, no physical training, but as usual, there are other things that affect our well being that we might was well touch.
Today I would like to draw your attention to one of the five social needs, and how it sometimes leads us to self sabotage.

From the dawn of time, the hunter gatherers lived together, in groups, and the belonging to that group would be crucial for their survival. That need for belonging is imprinted in our brains. It becomes very dominant in the teenage years, when adolescents start acting in a way that would allow them to fit in their posse.
There are a number of positive sides to this. And negative too. Sometimes our need for belonging drives us to self sabotage, and here are a few examples:
- We are driven to follow someone else’s ideas for success and happiness, because we fear we will become an outcast if we don’t - this happens often in families where children are not supported to follow and develop their talents, and they obey for the fear of being excluded
- We drop our diets, because our “gang” invites us to a restaurant, and if we don’t eat what everyone else eats, we are “boring”, and “come ooooon”, and “really?!?? We only meet once a month!”
- We consume alcohol when we have decided to go clean - because guess what - everyone drinks, and we are “boring”
- We follow someone else’s idea of how life should be - not our own - because ours may be seen as not “fitting” the concept of most

We need to belong. But here’s the thing - we don’t need to at any cost - and we don’t need to belong where we don’t belong truly. As you develop, self-enhance and change, so will your needs. You may no longer belong where you used to, as well as your response to whatever goes against your principles. Think about it. Share your thoughts.

🇫🇮 An entire Finnish sauna just for me!

Finnish saunas are usually heated to approx 100 degrees Celsius and are a fantastic way to relax, especially after a tough day or a heavy workout. Nevertheless, sauna is not suitable for everyone, especially if you have high / low blood pressure, or any heart condition. So - consult your physician before trying!
There has been a lot of discussion about sauna benefits, but well - the Finns have been doing this for ages! Some of these benefits:

💙 it is relaxing
💙 it opens your skin pores and cleans your skin
💙 some say it detoxifies you (I personally think this is your kidneys’ business but I am no doctor)
💙 the sauna - cold shower combination does drive dopamine levels up, giving a feeling of happiness and pleasure
💙 warms you nicely in winter
💙 in summer the heat doesn’t feel so hot after sauna
💙 helps you sleep better

Good morning folks!

What makes a morning a good one for you? Drop a comment!

I always try to start my day calmly and with pleasure. To me pleasure is a nice cup of espresso in bed; and “calmly” is achieved when I get up early enough to have the time to enjoy it and not be in a rush. Do I achieve it every day - of course I don’t. Do I beat myself up when I don’t - noooo.

The way we start our days is very much determining how they will go. If you manage to take 5-10 min to think about what you want to do, vs what you have to do, what energy you want to express and what energy you want to attract, believe me - it will go better.

Try this:
💙 Think about three things that you are grateful for
💙 Think about one nice thing you enjoy and you will do today
💙 Stay in the moment, appreciate the gift of breath

The book ordered in September, shipped in November finally arrives in the end of January! Totally worth the wait!

Not sure if I told you that workouts are much easier when you put some power music on, and put the volume to the max!

Next best is reading about my most favourite band - Amorphis of Finland🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘!

Does Monday feel a bit depressing? Or is it just the thought of starting the new week, all the obligations, all the to-do’s that make us feel a bit down? Seneca said that we suffer more in imagination than in reality and it is true 🙂 So, I do encourage you all gals and lads to take a few deep breaths, stop the spiralling thoughts of ”I must”, “what if”, etc, focus on the present moment, see the funny side of it, enjoy the gift of breath and do your best within your energy zone - wherever you are - in the gym, at work, looking after toddlers. And let me give you a hint - next to your to-do list you need to have another - the not-to-do list. For example, today on my not-to-do list I have cooking, shopping and cleaning. Me time instead, yey!
