How long can you hold a plank with good form?

Swipe for Poseidon’s men’s and women’s plank endurance guides by age. Find your age group, then see where your time lands.

For a comparable result, use a standard forearm plank on the floor: elbows beneath your shoulders, body in a straight line, and no sagging or piking. Stop the clock when you can no longer hold that position.

The exercise ball in the cover photo is a different, more unstable variation, so don’t use its time against these tables. The levels are general performance guides, not a diagnosis or a judgement on your fitness.

What’s your best strict floor-plank time? 👇

How strong is your deadlift for your age?

A double-bodyweight deadlift at 25 shouldn’t necessarily be judged in exactly the same way at 55 or 75. These tables provide age-adjusted strength standards for men and women, using your deadlift as a multiple of your bodyweight.
The calculation is simple:

Deadlift 1RM ÷ bodyweight = your multiplier
For example:
100kg deadlift ÷ 80kg bodyweight = 1.25x bodyweight

These tables measure relative strength, not absolute strength.

Bodyweight ratios tend to favour lighter lifters, so a heavier person may lift considerably more weight but still achieve a lower multiplier.
They also don’t account for your training history, injury status, technique or individual circumstances. They’re useful benchmarks-not a pass-or-fail test and certainly not a judgement of your overall capability.

At Poseidon, the appropriate target depends on the person. For somebody starting strength training later in life, lifting their own bodyweight safely could represent enormous progress. For an experienced lifter, it may simply be the starting point.

Swipe between the men’s and women’s standards, calculate yours and let me know where you currently sit.

Benchmarks adapted from SportsEdTV’s age-adjusted performance tables.

How strong is your squat for your age?

Swipe for the men’s and women’s standards. Find your age group, then divide your best back squat by your bodyweight. An 80 kg squat at 80 kg bodyweight, for example, is 1× bodyweight.

Treat the tables as a point of reference, not a target you need to hit tomorrow. If you’re new to squatting, you don’t need to test a one-rep max to start getting stronger.

We coach squats at Poseidon Performance in Dartmouth, from finding a version that suits you to building strength over time. If you’d like help with yours, send me a message.

How strong is your bench press for your age?

Swipe for the women’s and men’s charts. To work out your number, divide your best bench press by your bodyweight. A 60 kg bench at 75 kg bodyweight, for example, is 0.8×.

The charts are based on competition-style bench pressing. The named levels are a guide we’ve built from powerlifting data, not a judgement on where you should be. If you’ve never tested a one-rep max, there’s no need to do one just for a chart.

At Poseidon, the starting point is whatever you can do well today. Then we coach it and build from there.

Have you been told you’ll need to wait six, eight or even twelve weeks for a state physiotherapy appointment with the NHS—only to be offered a brief video appointment?

Waiting for that appointment doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend the next two months doing nothing.

At Poseidon, I can see you in person, take a proper history, assess how you move, test your strength and physical capacity and, where appropriate, perform relevant clinical tests.

Then we turn that information into a rehabilitation plan that is specific to you—and I coach you through it in person.

That might be back, knee, hip or shoulder pain, returning after an injury, or preparing for surgery such as a hip or knee replacement.

I’m not a physiotherapist, and I don’t pretend to be one. I provide in-person sports rehabilitation and progressive reconditioning. If something needs medical investigation or referral, I’ll tell you.

If you’re in Dartmouth and want to start rather than simply wait, send me a message.
