Celebrating a successful triathlon season on the racecourse would not be complete without the support of locally based organisers and hundreds of volunteers. World Triathlon Championship Series World Triathlon Bermuda (WTCS) Bermuda, accompanied by Official Volunteer Programme Supplier, PwC Bermuda, recently honoured these groups during an appreciation gathering for their hard work and dedication.

WTS BDA Chairwoman, Hazel Clark, OLY, addressed attendees with words of praise and gratitude, saying: “Events of this magnitude are successful because of the efforts of our local teams. Together, the local organising committees supported by the hundreds of volunteers, continue to make magic happen.

“Bermuda shines on the world stage of international sporting events owing to the contributions and know-how of its people. WTCS Bermuda issued a clarion call for volunteers which was answered in abundance. Our organisation is grateful to everyone who made this an unforgettable championship series event.”

As part of the evening’s festivities, PwC Bermuda presented Apple products as prizes for three lucky winners - Kylah Martin , Ashley Stone, and Desirae Jones - who took part in the volunteer programme incentive.

Scott Watson-Brown, partner, said: “We thank all of the volunteers for contributing their time and energy to help make the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Bermuda a resounding success. It really was a community-wide team effort and we were proud to support the volunteer programme and be part of such a fantastic international sporting event for Bermuda.”

Athletes featured include Solae Goater, Yara Muhammad, and Ava Clarke-Trott who are vying for the title of U10 girls’ Telford Electric National Cross-Country National Championships. While Liam Horrobin, Adrian Myers, and Matthew Hoey will challenge in the U10 boys’ field for the title.

In the U12 divisions, Riana Robinson, Sukanya Jobson, and Elena Bortoli have their eyes focused on gaining the Telford championship title. In the boys’ division, Ronan Davidge, Shane Reardon, As’ad Muhammad are contending to end the undefeated streak of Chavi Pacheco.

U14 girls will be an exciting race as Saniya Place, Azari Jones, Aria Mosquera, Antoinette Barry, Amaris Munya, and Kelise Wade are all considered to be front runners for the title of Telford Electric National Cross-Country National Championships. U17 young ladies will feature Jaeda Grant, Fenella Wightman, and Daria Desmond; they will be challenging each other while running the three-mile course to be crowned Telford Cross-Country Championship. AJ Harkness, Khari Sharrieff, Aaron Lugo, and Max Reid are expected to battle for the Telford title in the U17 division.

U20 division will be missing stars in both divisions as J’Auza James and Shayla Cann will not be competing as they will be taking the SAT test, as a result, these divisions are expected to be wide open and excitingly competitive with athletes like Jayson Simons, Jyier Barnett and Jake Brisbane challenging for the Telford Electric title.

As always we have our open and senior divisions which we expect to be competitive and exciting as athletes Mike Rickards, Tony Riker, Donna-Mae Arorash, Edwina Arorash, Zina Jones, Florence Sharpe, Sean Kelly, Marcello Ausenda, Gavin Simmons, Philip Woolins, Richard Howells, Rose-Anna Hoey, Rebecca Shepard, Wentworth Tucker, Darryl Herrick, Michael Toyer, Mairi Redmond, Jennie Kelly, and Laurie Orchard are some of the participants expected to be strong candidates to run away with the Telford title.

Through the support of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, BNAA has been able to add an additional feature to the Telford Cross-Country Championship with the introduction of American Secondary School Athletes which we are calling the Bermuda Challenge!

The challenge is an invitational for American Secondary School Athletes. Their addition to this field will help to bring out stellar performances of all of the local athletes.

The Telford Electric National Cross-Country Championships will be held at the beautiful Botanical Gardens with the first race starting at 8:30 am. The event is free of charge and open to the public. The BNAA is inviting everyone to come and support our athletes and wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the title sponsor for the event Telford Electric.

With just a few days left until both local and international athletes take to the famous blue carpet, the organisers of the World Triathlon Championship Series Bermuda are raring to go. The stage is being set for the upcoming races on November 5 - 6, with free grandstand tickets, courtesy spectator shuttles, and more.

Grandstand Tickets

A central cheering section is being offered at no charge for fans to immerse themselves in the heart of the action. Grandstand views of the transition area where key lead changes take shape, and the finish chute where cheers are the loudest, give fans all the heart-pumping adrenaline they need.

WTCS Bermuda Chairwoman, Hazel Clark said: “What a great way to experience all of the excitement that the World Triathlon Championship Series brings to Bermuda! We want

Bermuda to fill the grandstand and line the streets to make every moment of this event memorable.

“On Saturday, November 5, space in the grandstand will be open on a first come, first served basis for the Age Group races.

“For Sunday, November 6, spaces will be allocated using a free ticketing system. The day begins with the RenaissanceRe Kids Duathlon at 8:00am, followed by the highly anticipated male and female Elite races starting from 11.00am, featuring Dame Flora Duffy, Erica Hawley, and Tyler Smith.

“Our team has partnered with the folks at GPass to enable spectators to go online to obtain their free e-tickets, maximum four per person, on a first come, first served basis. We look forward to seeing the stands filled with a strong contingent waving flags and cheering loudly.”

Organisers anticipate all 450 tickets to be booked quickly, therefore, spectators are encouraged to visit tribermuda.com as soon as possible to get their e-tickets. Once secured, fans should download the e-ticket to their mobile device or print a copy to have scanned upon entry to the grandstand.

Traffic & Parking

Working with our partners at the City of Hamilton, routes and car parks forming the Main Race Venue over this week will be temporarily unavailable during specific time periods. The motoring public will find a full listing of the days, times, streets, and car parks affected by visiting cityofhamilton.bm/newslist.

Buses and ferries will be operating according to regular schedules over the weekend. However, for spectators wishing to drive, free shuttles have been arranged for Sunday, November 6. The free Park & Ride service will operate from 9:00am to 6:00pm between the Arboretum and the Central Bus Terminal, in 20 minute intervals.

If driving from the west end of the island appears to be lengthy, parking in Dockyard may be the answer. The regular Sunday ferry schedule will apply, with two additional runs. After the racing on Sunday, November 6, two extra runs will depart Hamilton returning to Dockyard in the evening - at 5:15 and 6:00pm.
When navigating the roads, parking, spectator shuttles, and how to get around the race courses, be on the lookout for volunteers wearing the custom red tee shirts courtesy of our Official Volunteer Programme Supplier, PwC Bermuda.

Hamilton retailers and restaurants will be open on the weekend. Patio lovers will have a great opportunity to dine on Front Street while taking in the action, reservations are encouraged to get the best seats in the house. For retail hours, spectators can check with the desired businesses directly online or by phone.

The Bermuda Netball Association (BNA) are celebrating 50 years of league netball this season and their celebrations start this Saturday October 29th with their league opener. The BNA invite you to come out to the Bernard Park Netball Courts this Saturday 1pm-6pm.

The courts will have all the junior and senior teams present for the opening ceremony and welcome address. Immediately after, the respective opening tournaments will commence with the Harold 'Doc' Dowling Tournament (Juniors) and the Sylvia Eastley Tournament (Seniors). All divisions will be on display in action packed tournaments that feature one interval of 10 minutes per match which requires teams to be ready from the first whistle.

While this will be a fun challenge for all divisions, the BNA must inform you that their 11&U age group is developmental and as such starting this season none of their match scores or division standings will be published. This is to further solidify that it is developmental and increases the focus on enjoyment and learning netball skills. They will however continue to recognize the player achievements, which will be shared with the media.

On Tuesday, October 25th, Tournament Officials released the full and final list of sponsor exemptions for the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course, October 27-30. John Daly, James Nicholas, Akshay Bhatia, Caleb Surratt, Aaron Jarvis and Palmer Jackson were amongst those named to compete in the tournament in Bermuda this week.

Nicholas, Bhatia, Surratt, Jarvis and Jackson will join previously announced sponsor exemptions Kim Swan, Michael Sims, Jarryd Dillas and Nick Jones. Swan, a Bermudian golf icon, was the first sponsor exemption granted this year. Sims, Dillas and Jones earned their berths through the local qualifier held October 4-5 at Port Royal Golf Course.

Over 30 years ago, Daly burst into the golf world. As the ninth and final alternate of the 1991 PGA Championship, the 25-year-old rookie went out and won the golf tournament. He followed that up by winning the 1995 British Open in St. Andrews. One of the most famous athletes in professional sports, the two-time major champion has five PGA TOUR titles and one PGA TOUR Champions title, the 2017 Insperity Invitational.

Nicholas is a multi-talented athlete who was a three-time New York State High School Hockey Coaches Association All-State selection. He played golf collegiately at Yale, winning five NCAA events, including medallist honours at the 2019 Ivy League Championship, and was twice named Ivy League Player of the Year. He earned his status for the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020.

Bhatia is a standout amateur who won ten junior titles and ascended into the top five of the World Amateur Golf Ranking before turning professional at 17. He was named 2018 AJGA Rolex Player of the Year and represented the U.S. in the 2019 Walker Cup, posting a 2-1-0 record in the U.S. victory. As a 19-year-old, he won the 2022 Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay.

Surratt achieved the world ranking of #1 amateur earlier in 2022. He currently plays collegiately at the University of Tennessee. He won the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in his first career start for the Volunteers. Before college, Surratt won the 2021 Junior PGA Championship, the 2021 Western Junior Championship, the 2021 Bobby Chapman Invitational and the 2021 Terra Cotta Amateur.

Jarvis has already achieved several milestones in his career. With his one-stroke victory in the 2022 Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), the 19-year-old became the first player from the Cayman Islands to claim an LAAC title, and as a result, became the first competitor from his home country to compete in the Masters. He is also the first Caymanian to make the cut at The Open. He currently attends University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

Jackson, currently a senior at The University of Notre Dame, has posted six top-ten results this year. He was the Jones Cup Invitational Champion and competed in the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup.

Saturday and Sunday tickets are 90% SOLD OUT. For tickets and more information on the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, visit butterfieldbdachampionship.com or email us at [email protected]
General admission tickets are $35. Digicel Business Ocean Club tickets retail at $250 and can also be purchased online. The public is encouraged to act quickly.

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship will implement the PGA TOUR’s Junior Initiative this year. Youth 15 and under are admitted free to the tournament grounds with a ticketed adult (this does not include hospitality spaces).

Volunteer applications open for World Triathlon Championship Series Bermuda

Organisers call on Bermuda’s volunteer base to support up to 400 roles during the November 5 - 6 event across the City of Hamilton
PwC joins WTCS Bermuda as Official Volunteer Programme Supplier

Organisers of the long awaited World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Bermuda alongside PwC Bermuda, the event’s Official Volunteer Programme Supplier, have opened registration for those on-island seeking to get involved in the action-packed racing, taking place on 5 – 6 November, 2022.

Volunteerism across the island is one of Bermuda’s greatest strengths when hosting both local and international sporting events, many of whom bring extensive experience to the table. This year, WTCS Bermuda looks to fill more than 400 positions across 19 sectors, covering the two day programme.

Hazel Clark, Chairperson, WTSBDA Ltd and Local Organising Committee said: “Running an event of this magnitude relies heavily on the support of great partners and dedicated volunteers. Bermuda has proven its solid track record of support in these areas through previous events, and we’re looking for that same great energy for this year’s racing activities in November.

“Continuing to align ourselves with valued supporters such as PwC also allows us to implement a complete volunteer programme, including initiatives demonstrating our appreciation of their time and unwavering efforts. Volunteers are vital to the success of our event

This year the organisers are implementing a “Double Up to Win" challenge. With competitions taking place over the course of two days, volunteers over the age of 18 are encouraged to sign up for two or more shifts in roles that span from the Athlete Welcome area, through to Course Marshals. Shifts can be selected for the same day, or on both days. All volunteers who take part in this incentive will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three Apple or other product prizes being offered by PwC.

Scott Watson-Brown, Partner, PwC Bermuda, commented: “We are thrilled to be the Official Volunteer Programme Sponsor for the World Triathlon Championship Series Bermuda, acting on our purpose and commitment to volunteerism. We encourage everyone to take a look at the volunteer opportunities and be part of this momentous race weekend, which will see the world’s best triathletes compete on our island, including Bermuda’s own Olympic champion, Dame Flora Duffy.”

A wide variety of roles are available to choose from, including marshalling, transition assistance, medal ceremonies, registration, information and media desk, swim assistants, opening ceremony, elite lounge, food area, and more.
Once registered, volunteers will receive information to attend orientation sessions being held in the month of October where detailed information about items such as dress code, meals, training, and kits will be provided.

To register, a complete list of roles and official signup sheet can be found at
bermuda.triathlon.org/volunteer.
