The COP bike ride

Du 12 au 14 août, le plus grand relais à vélo du monde pour le climat passe à Lyon ! 🚴🚴‍♀️🌍

La COP Bike Ride, c’est des cyclos du monde entier qui vont de COP en COP pour porter la voix des cyclistes auprès des décideurs locaux et mondiaux. Cette année, plusieurs bateaux sont partis d’Amérique du Sud jusqu’en différents points d’Europe de l’Ouest, direction Antalya en Turquie. Tout est fou dans ce projet : des milliers de cyclistes, 20 000+ km sur les diverses branches du parcours !

Le programme lyonnais :

Mercredi 12 août : arrivée à Lyon
➡️🚴‍♀️ RDV 18h à l’île Barbe, quais de Saône
➡️🚴 18h30 : départ collectif jusqu’à la place Bellecour, suivi d’un verre. Venez rouler !

Jeudi 13 août :

➡️🏛️ 14h: Réception à l’Hôtel de Ville de Lyon, rencontre avec la Ville de Lyon, remise officielle de la Lettre d’engagement

➡️🤩 Au Flâneur, soirée exceptionnelle COP Bike Ride : projection + jam !
🍻 Dès 18h : venez boire un verre avec les participant.es
🎥 19h30 : documentaire Ensemble (45 min) sur la formidable épopée collective de l’année dernière, de l’Azerbaïdjan jusqu’au Brésil
🎵 20h30 : soirée jam (concert participatif) avec Elmer, notre hollandais fou qui pé**le de Londres à Bucarest avec sa batterie dans sa remorque 🥁 Musicien.ne.s, amenez vos instruments, et prévenez Elmer ! 🎸🎷🎺

The COP31 Bike Ride: What a success in just 2 months, since we departed from Belém, Brazil! 🥳🤩

✅ We’ve already surpassed the number of participants from the COP30 Bike Ride (1,062 cyclists): close to 1,300 cyclists already!

✅ The record for the number of cyclists in a single day was broken on July 31: 208 cyclists, in the Toulouse/Tournefeuille area, in France!

✅ A record for the number of simultaneous branches: 6!! (Spain, 4 routes in France, the Netherlands)

✅ Increased political impact! The ride kicked off in Belém with the State Representative from Para, and in Europe with the Portugal’s Minister of the Environment and Energy. And a flood of letters of commitment received from city halls: already more than 70!!! (60 last year for the entire ride). And for the first time, a letter from Paris, which was elected the European Cycling Capital for 2025!

✅ Dozens of beautiful children’s drawings on the theme “Draw how a bike can make the planet more beautiful” and their messages for the people who decide the planet’s future !

✅ The first COP Bike Ride jazz concerts, thanks to Elmer, who rode all the way from London with his mini drum!

✅ A superb COP Bike Ride song, written verse by verse by highly inspired cyclists on the road in Brittany, and sung at the top of their lungs.

✅ After Guillaume in 2024 and Antoine in 2024 and 2025, Christophe will pedal this year from start to finish on the ride! He has already been joined by Jorge and Felix who also commited to ride till Antalya. And we are expecting more long-distance cyclists to go all the way to the COP!

✅ Our first stage cancellation, due to massive wildfires near Bordeaux, for cyclist safety and health reasons. These fire storms are fueled by global warming.

🙏 And this success in just two months was made possible by some fifty volunteers worldwide! And the scale of the impact stems from our collaboration with, and the support of, numerous national and local organizations promoting cycling in their regions! 🙏
And, of course, thanks to every cyclist! 🚴‍♀️ 👏

COP31 Bike Ride in Portugal 🇵🇹

June 28 to July 5 : 8 days, 350 kilometers, 90 people cycling, 7 commitment letters, 1 minister initiating dozens of baton-passing ceremonies, many hours on the road, and unforgettable moments !

Huge success on day 1: Arrival of the banner from Belém ride launch by boat and the official ceremony!

Day 2: departure from Campo das Cebolas, arrival at the Loures City Council reception in Moscavide, overnight stay at the Sacavém Volunteer Fire Department.

Day 3: Meeting with the vice mayor of Loures, ride along the Tagus River walkways, reception hosted by the councilwoman and the mayor of Vila Franca de Xira and visit to the Samora Correia Tourist Office.

Day 4: Visit to the 5th Artillery Regiment in Vendas Novas. Stunning scenery, our first mishap, a warm welcome, and a screening of the film Together

Day 5: After following the Montemor Ecopista, we were welcomed at the Montemor-o-Novo City Hall. Very early start to avoid the intense heat, which, these days, is reminding us just how much we need to reduce our emissions. By riding a bike, for example!

Day 6: Meetings at the City Councils of Montemor-o-Novo and Évora, with a few dozen kilometers of road and bike path in between.

Day 7: The vice mayor of Évora passed the baton to our host Teresa Engana, and we set off along the Reguengos Eco-Trail, guided by Carlos Borralheira, on our way to a charity lunch provided by the Filarmónica Redondense.
Then came the ride to Alandroal, under scorching heat, and we ended the day at the Fora da Casca Festival.

Day 8: We woke up in Alandroal, heading to the parishes of Caia, São Pedro, and Alcáçova.
Final filming, a farewell to Patrícia ‘Milady,’ and off we went to the border for the handoff from António ‘Marquês do Pedal’ to Pedro ‘Onde está o espanhol?,’ who continued into Spain with Christophe ‘Le réalisateur,’ who decided to complete the entire relay all the way to COP31 in Turkey ! 🥳

30 juillet - 1er août : Le COP31 Bike Ride à Paris, France 🇫🇷 !

Chaque année, le passage à Paris est toujours un moment fort, symbolique, du COP Bike Ride: En effet, c’est à Paris que tout a commencé ! C’est à Paris que l’initiateur de cette initiative citoyenne l’a créée. Et c’est de Paris, lieu de l’Accord sur le Climat en 2015, que s’est élancé, le 15 juin 2024, le premier COP Bike Ride, en direction de Bakou, lieu de la COP29!

Cette année, un programme exceptionnel vous attend à Paris le jeudi 30 juillet, avec notamment la signature de la lettre d’engagement de la Mairie de Paris 🙏!

Le relais arrive à Paris le jeudi 30 juillet. Le parcours à vélo et la soirée d’arrivée sont ouverts à tous :

✅ 17h30, place de la Concorde :
RDV public et départ à vélo sur la rue de Rivoli, en compagnie de Dan Lert, Adjoint au Maire de Paris, en charge des transports, des mobilités - Plan Piéton - Plan Vélo - et de la logistique urbaine, et de Valérie Masson-Delmotte, climatologue, coprésidente du groupe 1 du 6e rapport du GIEC.

✅ 18h, Hôtel de Ville : signature par Dan Lert et remise officielle de la lettre résumant les engagements de la ville de Paris en termes de politique cyclable à l’horizon 2030. Celle-ci est destinée à la présidence de la COP et aux parties prenantes, afin de les encourager à s’engager davantage en faveur du vélo.

✅ 19-22h, Soiree à l’Académie du Climat :
19h : rencontre avec les participants.
20h : projection du film « Ensemble », relatant le trajet du ride en 2025 et les origines de cette initiative citoyenne.
20h45 : jam jazz collective ouvert à tous, avec notamment la batterie transportée depuisLondres par l’un des cyclistes en chemin vers la COP !

✅ Le départ du relais depuis Paris vers la COP31 aura lieu le samedi 1er août à 9h30 en face de l’Hôtel de Ville, accessible à tous pour un jour, une semaine où plusieurs mois jusqu’à la Turquie…! 🚴‍♀️🥳💪
