Poker just gained another strong ally in its journey as a recognized sport.

On August 17, Thailand hosted its first international poker summit, bringing together representatives from 10 countries and territories across Asia. 🌏

Among the highlights, Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, publicly backed poker’s development as a sport in the country, a strong signal for the future of competitive poker in the region. 🇹🇭

The event also marked the regional launch of the 2026 Asian Nations Cup, a national team competition where athletes play without buy-ins, representing their countries for pride and sporting merit.

For a long time, women were told poker wasn’t a game for them.
But that was never about who could actually play better.

Poker isn’t luck, and it isn’t a gift either. It’s study, repetition and discipline. The gender gap was never about the ability to learn it. It was about access.

Real change has been building for years, both online and at live tables, and it comes down to one thing that’s simple to say but hard to deliver: creating spaces where women feel safe sitting down to play. In practice, that means events built specifically for them, backed by organizations ready to step in if anything crosses the line.

Today, practically every major poker tour runs its own women’s event. And the WPF is part of that movement through the Ladies Weekend. ♣️

The Ladies Weekend started in 2025 and returns in 2026 even bigger, with more countries and more women.
