To all of our friends around the world, we at Bahamas Underground wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Festivus or what every holidays you and your family use to get together and spend some time, and share a meal.
Thank you to all of you who joined us in the Crystal Caves of Abaco this year. We hope you will be back for more adventures. There is always more incredible sites to see.

Historic image. The day after Paul Hosie found the new entrance into Olwolgin cave (now the longest cave in Australia). Ken Smith and I took turns holding on to the land end of the line until we got bored and tied it off. About an hour later Paul surfaced with an empty reel breaking the surface like Excalibur, screaming through his regulator....it F # # goes!!
The image is of Paul and Al Polini laying the very next reel of line the following day.
The rest of us on the trip got a chance to lay a bit of line the same day. How luck can you get to be standing there when the longest cave in Australia is found! Can't remember the year, but maybe Paul or Richard Harris can help me out. What an incredible trip!

In 2016, I got a call from a production company working on a project called One Strange Rock for the National Geographic Channel. They said they were interested in our work in the caves of Abaco as part of a storyline for their documentary (I've now worked on 26 different television and film documentaries in the caves of the Bahamas).
They said they wanted me to put together an underwater film crew that I could work in the caves with safely, and bring home some incredible high-definition video images. I said, 'I get to pick the crew?". They said "Yup, we'll leave that up to you".
Here they are. My Camera, AC, Lighting and Cave Model. We've all worked on other projects together both before and after this with other highly talented film makers and underwater crew, but this was a very special shoot.
How lucky am I that I get to make underwater cave movies with my friends, make some money and promote the conservation of underwater caves all at the same time?
Due to new permitting requirements here, we probably won't be doing many more of them, but it was a great run while it lasted.

Almost to the hour, 5 years ago today. These images of Hurricane Dorian were all taken during the eye of the storm. The water wasn't in the building yet. The second half of the storm was even worse. This was life changing for most, life ending for some.
I saw the absolute best of people during this storm....things that can only be described as heroic. And I saw the absolute worst in people. Things that would make anyone despise the human race.
I never thought I would be involved in such a historic tragedy. It certainly changes you.
And then people came and saved us. Some people I knew, some I didn't. But they came and selflessly gave their time and money to help me and all of us on Abaco and Grand Bahama.
We can never repay what they did for us. It was more than just how much or what they gave, but WHEN they gave it. We were at our absolute lowest. People were leaving the island with the intent of never returning. Many never did.
It was a major gut kick that many thought we could never come back from. And because of some incredible people, I was able to come back from the gut kick. I will never forget those who helped me. Many of you don't want me to mention your names, but you know who you are. Thank you again.

Keeping my fingers crossed and sending good vibes out to my friends on the Island of Bermuda with Hurricane Ernesto bearing down on them.
Hope it passes over quickly and you will all be OK with only some stories to tell afterwards.
Stay safe my friends!

Another successful mission at the fill station last night. Peter Broger and I celebrated Alessandra Figari 's birthday with steaks on the grill and all the accoutrements with a GermN chocolate birthday cake to top it all off.
This after an awesome 2 hour dive to the Glass Factory section of Ralph's Cave. What better way to spend a birthday?!
Happy birthday Alessandra! Thanks for spending it here with us at Bahamas Underground.

Thinking about my friends up in the Panhandle. Hope it stays a tropical storm and doesn't increase in wind speed.
Ya'll (Panhandle speak) be safe!
