🇧🇸🎾 TEAM BAHAMAS SHINES AT THE IC ROD LAVER JUNIOR CHALLENGE!

What a fantastic week of international tennis for four of The Bahamas’ elite junior athletes!

Patrick MacTaggart, Chase Newbold, Briana Houlgrave and Addyson Munroe proudly represented The Bahamas at the IC Rod Laver North American Regional Junior Challenge, held October 13–16 at the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, Maryland.

Competing in the Under-16 division against teams from Mexico, Canada, Barbados and the USA, our juniors enjoyed a week of excellent tennis, exciting victories and some incredibly close finishes!

The Bahamian team delivered strong performances in both singles and doubles. Our girls secured impressive singles victories against the USA and Canada, while the boys also celebrated wins against American opposition. Several matches were fiercely contested, with doubles encounters going right down to deciding third-set match tiebreaks!

The tournament embraces the IC tradition of friendship through tennis, bringing together talented young athletes who compete hard on the court while building friendships and mutual respect beyond it.

All four Bahamian players are currently pursuing academic and tennis opportunities abroad while continuing to compete internationally at a high level.

🎾 A Special Moment Beyond the Competition

One of the week’s highlights came when our juniors participated in a tennis clinic for military veterans. They spent time helping participants with their strokes, serves and other tennis skills. It was wonderful to see our young athletes sharing their knowledge and enjoying the opportunity to give back.

🏆 Sportsmanship Recognition

A special congratulations to Addyson Munroe, who received the Girls’ Sportsmanship Award for The Bahamas at the closing awards dinner!

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Patrick, Chase, Briana and Addyson on a tremendous week of tennis and for representing our country with such pride.

Great competition, memorable moments and another strong showing for Bahamian junior tennis! 🇧🇸🎾

NEXT UP🇧🇸🎾 SYDNEY CLARKE CONTINUES TO MAKE HER MARK ON THE INTERNATIONAL TENNIS CIRCUIT!

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) extends congratulations to Bahamian professional tennis player Sydney Clarke following three weeks of competition at the ITF World Tennis Tour W15 Maanshan Open in China.

Sydney concluded her tournament series with an encouraging performance in the third week, improving on her earlier results and advancing to the third round of qualifying.

Entering the draw as the eighth seed, Sydney secured a convincing 6-4, 6-1 victory over China’s Chengwei Han before facing Xiao Tang in a competitive third-round encounter that ended 6-4, 6-3.

Throughout the three weeks, Sydney continued to make adjustments to her game, overcome early challenges and develop greater confidence on court. Her final week reflected that progress, particularly in her ability to settle into matches more quickly and compete with greater consistency.

Sydney’s experience in China is another important chapter in that journey. For a young Bahamian athlete competing on the world stage, every opportunity to face international opposition contributes to her growth and development.

The BLTA and the wider Bahamian tennis community congratulate Sydney on her continued commitment to the sport.

We are proud to see another Bahamian athlete pursuing her ambitions internationally and carrying our national colours with pride.

🇧🇸 MICHAEL MAJOR JR. MAKING HIS MARK! 🎾

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Michael Major Jr. on an outstanding performance at the 2026 MEAC Tennis Invitational in Cary, North Carolina.

Michael had a tremendous run to the men’s singles final. He defeated the No. 1 seed in a tough three-set quarterfinal and followed that up with a straight-sets win over the No. 3 seed in the semifinals.

In the final Michael faced No. 2 seed Andrii Borodatiuk of South Carolina State. After dropping the first set Michael fought back to take the second before Borodatiuk eventually won 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Michael finished the tournament as the MEAC Men’s Singles Runner-Up.

What a weekend for this young Bahamian!

Michael continues to show that he belongs among the best in collegiate tennis. Earlier this year he was named Second Team All-MEAC and now he has added another strong performance to his senior season at Howard University.

We have watched Michael represent The Bahamas over the years and we are extremely proud to see him continuing to grow and compete at this level.

Congratulations Michael! Keep working. Keep pushing. The BLTA and the entire Bahamian tennis community are proud of you. 🇧🇸🎾
