The Bahamas National Trust in partnership with the National Audubon Society organized a special visit to the Joulter Cays, an area proposed for national park designation, on September 26th. Minister of the Environment Kenred Dorsett , representatives from National Audubon, BNT Council members, Local Government Representatives and local Bonefishermen participated in the familiarization trip to the unique area of intertidal flats and low lying cays off of North Andros. The BNT has recently completed an REA ( Rapid Ecological Assessment) of the marine environment surrounding the three primary cays that make up the Joulter’s. The BNT has also engaged and involved primary resource users from North and central Andros communities in the park planning process for the area proposed for the Joulter Cays by holding focus group meetings to present the importance of this area , which is has been designated as an Important Bird Area.
