𝟐𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐, 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐮 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between
Chundu Armed Forces Public School (CAFPS), the Bhutan Boxing Federation (BBF) and the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), to introduce a sports talent development program in the Chundu Armed Forces Public School (CAFPS), Haa. The main aim of the project is to integrate a sports talent development program in the school so as to provide the students of CAFPS, an opportunity to participate in and possibly excel in sports, while simultaneously pursuing their academic aspirations. Under this initiative, CAFPS is envisioned to become a sports talent development hub for talented young student athletes. For the 2022 academic year, 14 youth boxers are enrolled under the program in CAFPS.

During the MoU signing ceremony, all three organizations expressed their interest to introduce other sports in the school, so as to offer a wide array of sports disciplines for the students of CAFPS.

The Secretary General, BOC shared that this first-of-its-kind initiative would create a viable platform for young student athletes, to participate and excel, in both academics and sports, thereby providing them with an additional opportunity to succeed in life. He further stated that with this project, CAFPS could become a hub and model for sports talent development and a wholesome academic experience, besides also assisting the National Sport Federations in developing youth talent, in the country.

The President of the Bhutan Boxing Federation, Col. Rinzin Dorji said that, ‘Bhutanese youth everywhere, excelled in sports at the school level, but were unable to build upon that at the national and international level. With the introduction of this project into the Bhutanese school system, and the clear development pathway provided for them to train and develop, the Federation was confident that many of these student athletes would go on to represent and win medals for our country.’
