Three athletes from the Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation (BAAF) participated in the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 held in 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐫, 𝐎𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚, 𝐨𝐧 22 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2026.

1. Kinley Lhendup – Men’s 800m
Athlete Kinley Lhendup competed in the Men’s 800m at 5:05 PM India time. A total of 14 athletes were entered in the event.
Kinley Lhendup completed the race in 2:02.60, finishing 10th overall. Despite the placing, he achieved an outstanding milestone by setting a new Bhutan National Record in the 800m.
The previous national record had been held for 27 years by Coach Kinzang Dorji, who is currently serving as a Middle- and Long-Distance (MLD) Coach with BAAF.

2. Samten Dema – Women’s 5000m
Athlete Samten Dema competed in the Women’s 5000m at 7:40 PM India time. There were nine athletes entered, with four athletes not starting.
Samten Dema completed the race in 18:07.03, finishing 4th overall. She produced an excellent performance and achieved a new personal best (PB).

3. Tshering Lhamo – Women’s 5000m
Athlete Tshering Dema also competed in the Women’s 5000m and finished the race in 18:44.38, placing 5th overall.
Although she completed the race successfully, she was unable to improve upon her previous personal best time in this event.

Overall, the three BAAF athletes performed well in this international competition. Their participation in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver provided valuable international-level racing experience and an opportunity to compete against athletes from different countries.
The highlight of the competition was 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐋𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐩’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 800𝐦, while 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 5000𝐦 was another significant achievement.

These performances demonstrate the continued progress and potential of Bhutanese athletes on the international stage and provide valuable motivation for their future training and competitions.

Today, three of our athletes, accompanied by Coach Kinzang Dorji, departed for 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐫, 𝐎𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚, to compete in the 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 – 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫 (𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥), scheduled for 22 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2026.

This prestigious competition is part of the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫 and will bring together leading athletes from across the globe, providing our athletes with an excellent platform to gain valuable experience and compete at a high-performance level.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞:
1. 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐋𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐩 – 800𝐦
2. 𝐓𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐨 – 5000𝐦
3. 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚 – 5000𝐦

With temperatures expected to reach around 32°C, with a minimum of 26°C and humidity ranging from 85–90%, the athletes will also need to adapt to challenging climatic conditions.

𝗕𝗔𝗔𝗙 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

As running events grow in popularity in the country, the Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation, BAAF is proposing a national certification system to improve consistency and accountability. The proposal was discussed at a recent stakeholder meeting in Paro attended by representatives from ministries, the Royal Bhutan Army, Royal Bhutan Police, tour operators, district administrations, and the Bhutan Olympic Committee. BAAF says the new system will not only improve safety and event standards but also create opportunities to attract international runners and identify and develop Bhutanese talent.

The 𝘽𝘼𝘼𝙁 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 concluded successfully today.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders for a thorough and constructive discussion on the proposed 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢. Valuable insights, recommendations, and perspectives were shared, which will contribute significantly towards establishing a standardized, transparent, and professional event certification framework.

The Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation (BAAF) successfully conducted a stakeholder consultation meeting on 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 today, with 11 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 participating in the discussion.

The meeting was highly productive, with thorough and constructive discussions on the proposed event certification framework. We sincerely appreciate the valuable insights, recommendations, and perspectives shared by all the stakeholders. Every input provided will contribute meaningfully towards developing a more effective, transparent, and standardised event certification system.

Today, our young athlete 𝑷𝒆𝒎 𝑮𝒚𝒆𝒍𝒕𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒏 departed for 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒂𝒏, 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑲𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒂, to participate in the 2026 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒔 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑, scheduled from 18𝒕𝒉 –23𝒓𝒅 𝑨𝒖𝒈𝒖𝒔𝒕 2026.

The camp is being held upon the invitation of the 𝑲𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒂 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊-𝑫𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 (𝑲𝑨𝑫𝑨) and will provide a valuable opportunity for young athletes to learn, connect, exchange experiences, and further develop their understanding of clean and fair sport.
