Botswana has what it takes to reach the top in every sporting code. Letsile School-boy Tebogo made sure we see that by staying true and consistent to his current winning form. Welcome to the InFit classroom βΌοΈ Today we are breaking down:
Stomach fat or as Batswana call it, "Mpha".
It is important to note that four factors determine body weight:
1. Age; the older you get the less use of your muscles and an increase in calorie retention.
2. Genetics; your molecular characteristics determine where your calories are stored and/or burned.
3. Calories consumed daily; the more calories you consume, the higher the chances of stomach (or visceral) fat.
4. Calories burned daily; the more calories you burn, the lower the chances of stomach (or visceral) fat.
However, the problem with belly fat is that it extends beyond the padding just beneath the skin. That's known as subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat is part of belly fat located deep within the abdomen and surrounds the internal organs. Abdominal obesity, sometimes referred to as truncal obesity, is a human condition characterized by an excess of visceral fat around the stomach and belly.
Regardless of a person's overall weight, having a significant quantity of belly fat increases the risk of illnesses such as high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, heart disease, and more.
After all that reading you're probably telling yourself I should get straight to the point on how to remove such fat ππ. Therefore, since I am a nice guy I will give you two GOLDEN gems that you can apply easily at home to lose that stubborn mpha:
a) First things first (and this is for you coke heads in the back); LEAVE FIZZY AND/OR SUGARY DRINKS ALONE.
Sugar adds to visceral fats when you don't burn enough daily calories. In other words, keep it neat, keep it clean, and buy water.
b) Eat a nutritious diet. A healthy diet emphasizes plant-based foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
No π I don't mean go vegetarian or vegan. However, increase the amount of plant-based foods you consume. They possess the least amount of calories. You will thank me later.
In conclusion, sometimes life throws so many lemons at you that you end up eating too much. However, that doesn't mean it's the end in terms of obtaining your dream body. Subsequently, the tips in this post are not the only things you can do to lose weight.

I really commend the Botswana Basketball Association for their role in the development and partial success of basketball in Botswana over the past two years. Since COVID, there have been:
- League diversification and wider regional support
- An increase in international 3x3 participation for both genders
- A glimpse and the gateway to BAL (Basketball Africa League)
I would also like to publicly commend private organizations such as Dirurubele Tsa Rona, Young Athletes, The 13th Movement, Propellers, Heart City Basketball, and others for their constant involvement in youth development, youth international exposure, sport management, event coordination, and sports tourism.
It honestly warms my heart to see this type of growth in the sport we know and love so much. However, it is because I love this sport so much that I feel a great injustice is imposed upon all the players who have the chance to play basketball in this country.
Notice how in the first paragraph of this post I said "partial success of basketball in Botswana". That's because at the rate at which it's going? Partiality is all we will ever accomplish if we don't take control of this challenge:
1) Sports Science Education and Literacy.
I think we all know this is personal for me because of my academic and professional background. However, this does not discredit the fact that the majority of the leadership positions in this country have zero knowledge in this regard. How is this possible when sport is literally run by the science and the management of it? π
You have coaches who:
a) Have no clue about human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, or even basketball biomechanics and how it's vital to athlete success. Players get hurt and you'll hear the coach say "Walk it off" or "Use the R-I-C-E formula" (i.e., rest, ice, compression, and elevation). They are literally blank in this regard. Let me not get started on promoting active muscle flexibility and rotational mechanics in their training regimes, but YET YOU WONDER why players are always getting hurt or performing poorly when it comes to the big stages?
b) Don't know the long-term psychological effects of their words, actions, and even inactions on fragile and/or well-developed minds. They say what they want, when they want, and to who they want without having to worry about negative repercussions. Oh, and they sleep just fine at night while some players have trauma for the next few years of their lives.
c) Choose their own immediate desires rather than considering the long-term effects it may have on players. Coaches will listen to their best player say "I'm fine" and then proceed to walk him onto the court because he or she knows it's their best chance of winning, without considering this athlete may rip his or her ACL with one wrong overextension or landing.
You have administrative management that:
d) Do a mediocre job at the office. Let's keep it a buck. However, I don't blame them. When you place people of little no to quality in power? You're going to get a league with zero to no value. Concurrently, consider the fact those in management positions have general knowledge of one or a variety of fields INSTEAD of specific in-depth knowledge that could ACTUALLY be applied to further the success of the sport itself. In other words? It is better to have 10 people with 10 different skills working on one project than to have 1 person who knows 10% of what each of those people know. Why do you think we're not really getting anywhere in terms of international recognition and excelling in international basketball standards? Do people actually know about Botswana Basketball? How many Botswana Basketball players are actually talked about in other places of the world? Do people look at our league and actually see competition? It starts here π LEADERSHIP.
The BBA needs to look into this and actually invest their money into REBUILDING AND MAINTAINING A SOLID FOUNDATION OF THE ASSOCIATION. It's these types of investments that have a larger and more sustainable RETURN OF INTEREST on both the economy, the league itself, and athlete development. That's the blueprint βΌοΈ

The year is 2024. π
You woke up with an ache in your back and immediately felt discomfort as you tried to get out of bedπ. You bend your knees and hear that pooping sound "thwua" with every step. Let me not get started on your shoulders cause that takes about 1 business day for them to come alive and actually start supporting your arms. You have headaches for the majority of the day, don't assess why, and then proceed to give yourself just enough of a mental boost through words of affirmation to get through your day, knowing you have to go through the same processes tomorrow.
Like bro, isn't it enough? Are you not tired of feeling old? π
Muscular atrophy is the decrease in size and wasting of muscle tissue. Muscles that lose their nerve supply can atrophy and simply waste away. People may lose 20 to 40 percent of their muscle and, along with it, their strength as they age. Considering that this is coupled with the fact that you don't stretch or exercise; you live off junk food and only drink water when your throat is dry. π What do you expect?
Invest in your bodies before it's too late π«΅πΎ It's really just about how much value you hold for yourself. HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILLING TO SPEND ON BETTERING YOU? Hire that personal trainer, purchase that workout and nutritional plan, watch those videos, and constantly perfect your technique. It's time to wake up, we're not getting any younger βΌοΈ

The problem is your workout is built for aesthetics, not functionality. You slave at the gym to get those perfect mirror pictures, and finally, slide into those jeans that used to fit, and then please societal (and/or individual) norms of what's "acceptable" to further your romantic proclamations to your "type" ππ«΅πΎ.
