Malawi welcomed the flame with its young athletes at the heart of the moment. 🇲🇼

They stood beside the torch that is travelling across our region towards the 2026 Region 5 Youth Games in Maputo. Around them, music and dance gave this stop a distinctly Malawian welcome.

Soon, young people from across Southern Africa will meet in competition. For now, each country has a moment to receive the flame and make it its own.

Thank you, Malawi, for carrying the journey forward.

ZAMBIA RAISES THE TORCH. A WHOLE REGION SHARES THE PRIDE.

A torch held high. Teammates smiling. A shared moment on the road to Maputo 2026.

In Zambia, the Region 5 Youth Games Torch Relay brings us back to what makes sport matter: the chance to participate, to represent your country and to belong to a team.

That opportunity must reach young athletes of every ability — with access to training, support and space to compete.

Across our ten nations, let us match the pride of this moment with the opportunities our young people deserve.

Zambia, thank you for carrying that spirit forward. 🇿🇲

🇱🇸 IN THEIR HANDS, OUR JOURNEY CONTINUES.

In Lesotho, young athletes gathered around the Maputo 2026 torch — hands together, sharing a moment that connects them to young people across Southern Africa.

Soon, they will compete under different flags. Along the way, this torch reminds us how much they share: the dedication to improve, the courage to compete and the pride of representing home.

To every young athlete watching: keep training. To every family, coach and community: keep opening doors. The journey to the Games begins long before the first whistle.

From Lesotho to the rest of our region, the invitation is clear: stand behind this generation.

ONE FLAME. TEN NATIONS. TOGETHER TO MAPUTO.

Another week of movement, achievement and regional unity across Region 5.

From communities coming together for Walk for Life in Namibia, to celebrating excellence at Angola’s National Athletics Championship and the journey of the Region 5 Youth Games flame, this week reflects the power of sport to connect nations, inspire generations and build a stronger region.

One flame. Ten nations. One generation ready.

A flame can cross a border in a day. What it carries can stay with a generation.

Eswatini welcomes the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games Torch from Mozambique. In the hands of young athletes, it carries a promise shared across Southern Africa: to compete with courage, respect one another and see how far we can go together.

The journey continues to Lesotho. Each handover brings us closer to Maputo 2026, where our young athletes will meet as competitors and leave connected by something greater than the results.

Eswatini, keep the flame moving. 🇸🇿
Lesotho, it is coming your way. 🇱🇸

Amanhã, o Botswana recebe a chama.

A Namíbia iluminou o caminho.
Botswana, chegou a tua vez.

Juntos, levemos esta esperança até Maputo.

ONE FLAME. TEN NATIONS. A GENERATION READY.

Today, young people in Namibia carried a flame that belongs to all of us.

In their hands, we see the early mornings, the hours of training, the courage to try again — and the pride of representing home.

The Maputo 2026 African Youth Games Torch Relay began its journey today in Namibia. Tomorrow, Botswana welcomes the flame.

As it travels, it carries an invitation to every young person across Southern Africa: bring your talent, your determination and your dreams. You have a place in this story.

To the families, coaches and communities behind our young athletes: this journey is yours too. Every word of encouragement, every sacrifice, every opportunity you create helps them take the next step.

Namibia has lit the way.
Botswana, it is your turn.

Together, let us carry that hope all the way to Maputo.

Angola celebrated athletics as part of its Paralympic Month activities with the National Athletics Championship.

The championship put athletes and competition at the centre of the occasion, while drawing attention to the importance of more opportunities to train and compete.

AUSC Region 5 congratulates everyone who took part and all those who helped deliver the event. Across Southern Africa, inclusive sport grows when athletes have access to competitions throughout the year.
