The War Stories of The Nedbank Desert Dash - Tumiso
Stage 3 and Stage 5.
10 hours and 30 minutes on the saddle.
The Desert Dash wasn’t just a ride — it was a full-on battle of mind and body. There were moments I felt unstoppable… and moments where doubt crept in. Every climb, every push reminded me why endurance is a true test of character.
I think riding through the night actually gave me the courage to keep going. The air was cooler, and because I couldn’t really make out the landscape, I didn’t feel the vastness of the desert — and somehow, that made it easier to push through.
Yes, I had so many questions mid-race — and even more thoughts about quitting 😂😂
But I didn’t.
As the finish line approached, a wave of emotions hit me. I was happy, I wanted to cry, but above everything… I was proud.
Proud because this is something I’ve been chasing for a long time. I wanted to prove to myself that I could really do this — and I did.
I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who believed in me, especially my C4L family. Your support carried me through the dark patches, the doubts, and the desert winds.
This journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth every single pedal stroke. 💪🔥

🚴🏽♂️💼 FINISH STRONG — ON THE BIKE & IN THE BOARDROOM
Just like in cycling, the corporate year is won in the final stretch. It’s not about how tired you feel, but about the discipline, focus and heart you bring to the finish line.
This December, we get to tap into that same winning spirit at the Meet the CEO session with Zwelibanzi Sapula, SADC-DFRC CEO — a conversation themed exactly as every cyclist loves to ride: Finish Strong.
Whether you’re closing deals or closing gaps on the road, the message is the same:
Push with purpose. Lead with clarity. Finish strong.

What an unforgettable night it was.
We would like to take the time to thank all that came out n had fun with us in the dark. The moon came out to play and she was beautiful.
And what is a night ride without a little recovery n repairs.
We are super proud of those riders who said they only doing the shorter distance but stuck it out and cycled the full 100km.
We can’t show you all the shenanigans you have to experience them for yourselves. Make sure to join us in the next one. Watch this space

The War Stories of The Nedbank Desert Dash - Phenyo
I finished at Stage 4 of the Nedbank Desert Dash, and I’m still buzzing from the experience. After tackling the relentless climbs of Stages 1 and 2 and then facing the mentally and physically demanding sand of Stage 3, I arrived at Stage 4 with more than 20 hours on the saddle. With only two hours left before the cut‑off for Stage 5, I made the tough call to stop here and preserve my energy for a stronger return in 2026.
It was my first Desert Dash, and the raw beauty of the Namib, the camaraderie of the riders, and the knowledge that every kilometre supports charitable activities made the race unforgettable. I’m thrilled with the result, grateful to Nedbank, the organizers,my club Cycle 4 Life,my wife and family, my train mates Mr Jackson and Ms Wame, my fellow competitors and all the supporters cheering us on from the dunes and beyond. I can’t wait to come back and shave a few minutes off the clock.

We said there are stories and here is one:
“I feel sorry for these guys. Dash is not a normal race. 1st you are used to cycling at 900m altitude, all of a sudden you are riding at 2000m altitude.
What does this mean? Your lungs are not acclimatised to sucking thin oxygen at that altitude. Both stage 1 and 2 you are still at that altitude, only after stage 2, you start going down.
In reality, you need at least 2 weeks of training at that altitude to get yourself acclimatised. Its one of those that we take for granted”

Some of the First Ladies from Cycle for Life to take part in the Nedbank Desert Dash.
We should write a book on their experience. It would be a best seller.
