What an insightful and meaningful conversation on “Sitting With Our Failures.” I truly enjoyed exploring the uncomfortable but necessary spaces of failure, disappointment, acceptance and shame with you.

What a beautiful and memorable experience it was spending time with the 2026 candidates of Palapye Secondary School.

Ultimate Women, thank you for deeming it fit to collaborate with us on this beautiful and meaningful initiative. Thank you for believing in the importance of investing in our young people and creating spaces where they can be encouraged, challenged and reminded of who they can become.

To the management of Palapye Secondary School, thank you for opening your doors to us and trusting us with your learners. We deeply appreciate the opportunity to pour into the lives of these young people.

And to the 2026 candidates—thank you for staying with us even when the programme went beyond your normal school knock-off time! Your willingness to remain, listen, participate and make the programme such a beautiful one was truly appreciated.

Our message to you was simple, but powerful:

Your circumstances do not have to determine your future.

The girl who was once told she was not intelligent eventually graduated from university as a Valedictorian.

I wanted the learners to understand that success does not always begin with perfect circumstances. Sometimes it begins with a decision—you simply decide that you will not give up.

Your academics can become a doorway to a different future. Your choices matter. Your character matters. Your discipline matters. The name you build matters.

So, to the Palapye Secondary School Class of 2026: Dream. Learn. Work. Persevere. All the best in your Finals....

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO SHOSHONG JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

What a beautiful experience it was to be part of the 2026 Candidates’ Excursion to Mahalapye Cresta Hotel.

To the leadership of Shoshong Junior Secondary School, the Excursion Committee, the teachers, and especially the Deputy Head, thank you for trusting us at Elegant Living with your learners and for creating a space where they could step away from the familiar, relax, have fun, and most importantly, be reminded that they deserve the best in life.

It was an honour to sit with these young people and share a part of my story not because my journey was perfect, but because I wanted them to understand that where you start does not have to determine where you finish.

I shared openly about growing up with a learning disability, being orphaned at a tender age, repeating classes, and being labelled “not intelligent.” Yet, somewhere along the journey, I made a decision that I would not allow my circumstances to write the final chapter of my story.

That decision took hunger, discipline, determination, resilience and a willingness to keep learning. Eventually, the girl who had been labelled “not intelligent” graduated from university as a Valedictorian.

My message to the learners was simple: Never allow a difficult beginning to convince you that you cannot have a beautiful ending.

Your name will be built by your choices, your character, your discipline and the things you do when nobody is watching. Your academics can become a doorway to a different future, but you must be willing to walk through that door.

To the Class of 2026, keep going. Keep learning. Keep dreaming. Keep building your name.

And to Shoshong Junior Secondary School, thank you once again for allowing me to be part of this special moment. Thank you for trusting Elegant Living to pour into your learners.

Sometimes we over-identify with our pain so much so that we choose to remain in the recovery space far longer than necessary. Somewhere along the journey, we lost sight of who we are, and the only identity we have held onto is our pain.

I have sat with people who still speak of their trauma like it happened yesterday yet it's been over a decade. Not because the wound is still fresh, but because somewhere along the line, that pain became their identity. The abuse, the betrayal, the heartbreak it began to define them. Some have remained in the victim space for so long, they don’t know who they are outside of it.

And the truth is, society often rewards pain more than healing. We give attention when people speak about their scars, but rarely celebrate their wholeness.

In 2026, I want to challenge you: let your identity not be your scars. Choose transformation. Choose to move from survival to wholeness, from recovery to purpose. You are not what hurt you. Your story is not just about what you survived it's about who you're becoming.This year, no more pity parties. No more nursing old wounds. It’s time to rise into the healed, whole, and powerful version of you.

Today let's talk a bit about Parentification...

These happens when a child is placed in a role that belongs to the parent emotionally, physically, or practically. Instead of being cared for, the child becomes the caretaker, the stabilizer, or the emotional anchor of the family.

This can happen when a parent is absent, emotionally unavailable, immature, overwhelmed, or dealing with problems such as illness, addiction, or instability.
The child learns very early that “If I don’t step up, everything will fall apart.”

As these children grow, the behavior becomes a personality pattern, not just a childhood survival strategy.

In Childhood it looks like just taking care of siblings or being the emotional support for a parent

These are the kind of people whose identity is tied to being useful.

The biggest wound of parentification is grief, grief for the childhood they never had and the support they never received. This grief often hides under perfectionism.

They also fail in setting boundaries, as children, they could not say no and even as adults, saying “No” feels like abandonment or failure and because they were never cared for, they don’t know how to accept care. Someone loving them can even feel uncomfortable or suspicious.

They often feel guilty when putting themselves first

They tend to attract, emotionally immature partners, friends who offload problems and people who take advantage of their kindness

Healing begins when the person understands:

“I was a child who had to act like an adult so now as an adult, I’m allowed to rest.”
“I don’t have to fix everyone.”
“My worth is not in what I do for people.”
“Love includes receiving, not just giving.”
