Teach a man to fish...

Food / Fish / Friends. What else does one need? Catch what you eat, drink and be merry then top it off with cognac and Mosi-Oa-Thunya cigar nightcaps on the open Musankwa Houseboat upper deck. The boys and I also managed to catch some of the biggest Labeo in pic below that I've ever seen! Truly thankful to have experienced this journey and lifelong memory. TLK

Kariba bream action on the pontoon. We baited one spot and kept going back to it daily. On the last day, we refused to go back to the houseboat for breakfast and lunch and opted to stay out for a full day. GOOD call!! We killed them for 2.5hrs straight biting action during that time. Please take me back!!

What can I say? Bucket list item checked off. Spent 5 glorious days on the Musankwa Houseboat on Lake Kariba and what an epic adventure it was!! Went deep into the Lake over to Elephant Island where the houseboat moored and we went out daily to the honey hole on the fishing boat. The crew on the boat were amazing, very knowledgeable and skilled boatsmen. They baited the spot with chicken feed and game block and boy did it produce. After a few glitches, we got underway and started adapting to the fishing style. Was a bit quiet on Day 1 but then from Day 2, action picked up significantly.

I was very pleased to find that we caught multiple species and not just Nilos. We caught 3 Spot, Red Breast and even Pink Happys! Also managed 5 Labeo, the size of which I've never seen get this big! Super action with all the fish fighting ferociously! I have to hand it to Kariba, this is a fisherman's paradise!! Absolutely satisfied with the fishing, food, camaraderie and memories made. Yesterday was our last day before we headed back to Botswana.

Will definitely be going back asap!! Coincidentally, the Kariba International Tiger Fishing Tournament started yesterday, same day we were leaving. Going to have to make a plan for that, the road was good enough to take my boat up there so I will definitely be doing that on my return trip. What an absolute banger of a trip!!!

Touchdown Lake Kariba! Just boarded our floating home for the next 5 days, the majestic Musankwa Houseboat. Didn't manage to leave today to the honeyhole as planned because we're still waiting on a few other guests to arrive before we cast off. It's been a memorable and hectic trip so far but really nice to get on to boat and finally unwind. Took the smaller boat we're towing out for a quick recon mission outside the harbor, but no takers except a lovely 1.6kg tiger. Tomorrow is fishing day for real! 😃
