e🇮🇳 Arjun Erigaisi and Wei Yi reach the top 16 at the FIDE World Cup.
They are the only top-10 seeds still in the event. 😱

The World Cup has knocked out almost every other top-10 seed, from World Champion Gukesh D to Vincent Keymer, Anish Giri, Praggnanandhaa, and Wesley So. Arjun and Wei Yi are the only ones who advance to round 5.

♟️ About the FIDE World Cup
Over 200 players fight in a knockout format with two classical games per round. If the match is tied, they go to rapid and blitz tiebreaks. The top three finishers qualify for the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament to decide who will challenge World Champion Gukesh D.

Breaking News From The USA, State Of Texas.

Life couldn't have started better for the Elite Scholarship student, WCW Refilwe Pitso (formerly Gabatshwarwe), chess wise, who studies at Texas Tech University, USA.

1800 Rated Player Saves The Day.

In a display of grit & determination an 1800 rated female chess player, WCW Refilwe Pitso from Texas University salvaged a draw against a formidable 2500 rated GM Khanin Semen at the recent Rapid Team Tournament. The event witnessed a fierce battle between Texas Tech's Team A & Texas Tech's Team C, with the latter fielding the talented 1800 rated girl as their board 1 player.

Texas Tech, known for it's prestigious chess program sent 3 teams comprising 9 students, 8 boys & 1 girl to the tournament.
The University's commitment in fostering talent was evident as the GM led Team A, while the up & coming 1800 rated player captained Team C.

The highlight of the tournament unfolded in the fiercely contested end game between board 1 of both teams. Despite being in a seemingly lost position, Pitso capitalized on a momentary inaccuracy by her GM opponent managing to secure an awe-inspiring draw.
As The dust settled Team A emerged victorious with a 2.5 - 0.5 win. Nevertheless the courage & resilience demonstrated by the 1800 rated player not only earned her admiration from teammates & coaches, but also etched her name in the annals of Texas Tech's chess history.

Black pieces (GM Semen) Kh7, g7, h6, Rf8, b7, e6, d5, e4, Bc4 & Qc2.

A pivotal moment arose when Khan played an inaccuracy, moving Qd2 instead of the more advantageous Rf5. Undeterred by her opponent's caliber, Pitso showed her chess prowess by quickly spotting the saving move Re3.
In that moment board 1 for Team C showcased not only her skill but also her ability to maintain composure under pressure.
