The CZMAI family would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late great Michael "Mike" J. Heusner. Mike's passion and advocacy for the proper and sustainable use of our environment, as well as his work in building and supporting Belize's sport fishing industry, are remarkable. He was a wealth of knowledge and had a gift for getting his point across, either through stories from his life experiences or analogies that were easy to understand. Mike was a truly great communicator, educator, historian, mentor, and, above all, a great friend. He will truly be missed, but his legacy will live on. Rest in Peace, Mike.

CZMAI is currently doing its last fly fishing camp for this year. We are in Punta Gorda!!! many thanks to Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) and Dennis Garbutt for supporting this camp, it wouldnt have been possible without community support.

Also we can't forget Environmental Defense Fund, Omar's Freelance Fishing, dog community and conservation foundation, Hilian Martinez, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust and bonefish for supporting this annual initiative country wide.

Lastly, shout out to the University of Belize who supported this initative by providing CZMAI with Ms. Kamille Mendez through their internship program.

We will keep you all updated throughout this week and also share our experience in the other locations we visited this year.

CZMAI once again kicks off its annual fly fishing summer camp in San Pedro,geared towards sensitizing youths of coastal communities about to need for sustainable use of our coastal resourses and the benefits of low impact activities as a great career path. Participants will learn the basics of casting, line tying, wading and other skills.

This yearly activity is only possible through collaboration with our local and international partners including; Omar Freelance Fishing, Hilian Martinez , Environmental Defense Fund, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, San Pedro Tourist Guide Association,Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation, Blue Bonefish and Kids in Action Program.

It's time for CZMAI’s Annual Fly Fishing Summer Camp in Placencia! We invite youths from Placencia Village, ages 14 to 18, to join us and learn amazing fly-fishing skills such as fly casting, knot tying, and more. Camp Dates are July 29th-August 2nd,2024.
