Today, we honor and celebrate the life of Elmar 'BOO' Avila, an extraordinary man, an instructor, business owner, a visionary and above all a devoted and loving father.

After years of working at various resorts and dive companies unlike many, he chose his own path, in 2010, driven by courage, passion and belief in his own dreams and most of all dearing to be different he opened his own dive and snorkeling business. That decision was historic, it became the first locally owned dive shop in Hopkins and for many years the only one. To him, Seemore was a statement of pride, preserverance and possibilities.

He dreamed BIG, he envisioned more than success, he envisioned LEGACY. Everything he built was in the hopes his children would one day inherit not just a business, but rather the values behind it- hard work, integrity, and love for the sea and people.

Though his life was cut short, and left deep aches in the hearts of his family, friends, and community, his spirit remains present. His infectious laugh still echoes. His legacy lives through his business, the lives he touched, and the family and community he so fondly loved.

He was a supportive and devoted father, a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, and a pillar within his community. He always showed up! And gave his all without hesitation!

On his birthday today, we remember not just his accomplishments, but the person he was: kind, driven and deeply loved. His journey did not end- it continues through us, through everything he built, and that he lives he forever changed.
