It's almost Halloween and you know that Pixie is in her element!
She has been trying on costumes non-stop and, so far, this one appears to be her favorite - The Tiger! 🐯
With all the natural stripes she might be on to something. What do you think - will Pixie win Best Costume Prize this year? ☺️

Jade has a very specific opinion about lead ropes. Lead ropes are a no go.

Some horses see a lead rope and think, “Oh, we're going somewhere!” "Yay, we will learn something new!" "A lead rope means a treat!"

Jade sees one and thinks, “Nope, absolutely not. Bye Bye Bye."

She’s still learning to trust, so we don’t chase or corner her. We give her space and let patience do the work.

One day at a time.

Always something super special about watching a child meet a horse for the first time: the curiosity, the wonder, the little smile - all leading up to the moment when they realize, "Hey, this big guy is my friend."

That's Frankenstein, quietly standing there letting a little one discovere just how special horses can be.

Some memories are measured in miles and others? Measured in little moments like this.

Ever notice a horse give itself a good shake after getting up?

It is a pretty common "body reset" - their way of getting the body moving and shaking off dust, dirt and bugs. Standing after resting changes pressure and blood flow through the limbs, and a shake can help the horse feel “awake” and loose again.

Fun fact: not every horse does a body shake every time they get up. It can depend on the individual horse, how long they were lying down, the weather, insects/dirt, and simply their personal habits. A horse that doesn't shake after getting up isn't necessarily showing anything wrong - it is generally followed by normal walking, eating and behavior.

Sometimes all you need is a hug and to be reminded that you are loved.

And sometimes, that hug comes from a horse who trusts you enough to simply lie there and share the moment. No words needed - just warmth, trust, and a connection that says everything.

We spend a lot of time talking about horses and our trails but sometimes the view right outside our gate deserves some attention too!

This is Victoria Peak - looking oh-so-impressively beautiful as seen from the Southern Highway right here by Outback Trails.

After a night of good, soaking tropical rain, the early morning sun falls on the peak just right, making everything look fresh, green and magical.

Victoria Peak rises about 1,120 meters (3,675 feet) in the Cockscomb Mountain Range (part of the Maya Mountain Range) and is one of Belize’s iconic peaks. It is located in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary - home to the world's first jaguar sanctuary and sits just a few miles northwest of us.

Keep an eye out for this amazing view when you drive past us!

And FYI: our horse trails run right along the lower foothills of the Maya Mountains.

Did you know horses often groom each other as a way of strengthening social bonds and showing affection?

Here, while we groom Buzz, he responds by grooming Mom. This is called mutual grooming, or allogrooming, and it’s a natural social behavior in horses. They often groom preferred companions around areas that are difficult to reach, such as the withers and neck.

Buzz may simply be responding to the pleasant interaction by directing that same social behavior toward Mom.

A sweet little chain reaction and a lovely reminder that horses communicate and express themselves in their own ways.

Shakira is a master of the dramatic side-eye and pinned back ears when she is determined to get her way.

We (stupidly) tied her briefly to a mango tree and having a salad bar of fresh mango leaves just a few inches from her mouth was apparently too much temptation to handle!

The message loud and clear, "You seriously expect me not to eat that - then why tie me here??"

(Note: Fresh mango leaves are generally considered okay for horses to nibble in small amounts, provided the tree hasn't been treated with chemicals - but, as with any unfamiliar plant, no snacking is advised.)

What a day!

Yesterday we had an absolutely marvelous time in Sittee River Village and we were thrilled to be part of their Independence Day Parade!

There was plenty of community spirit, smiles, music, laughter - and of course horses! 😉

A HUGE thank you to the Sittee River Village Council and all the wonderful village members who put in the time, hard work and dedication to make it all come together. It was truly a memorable day!

We were proud and happy to be a part of it. 🥳
