San Pedro Swim Club is a group of reef huggers who host morning swims in open water along Ambergris Caye for exercise & fun. Start the day right! Join us. 1.
San Pedro Swim Club hosts trash cleanups, lionfish hunts, and morning reef swims. We use only reef-safe sunscreens (or none — it's 6am!) and biodegradable mask soap, we collect any plastics or trash we come across, and we do not disturb the plants or marine life. This means no spearfishing, and never touching or standing on any coral formation.
2. Swimmers wear mask / snorkel and fins (NOT provid
ed, purchase your own or borrow beforehand!)
3. This is an exercise swim in a group, not a recreational snorkel session. Although we see lots of marine life and beautiful seascapes, the mission is to improve swim technique and get faster and stronger while bringing attention and contributing to reef protection! Fun, friends, AND fitness!
4. Until we have a set schedule, please look out for these Facebook events. TELL A FRIEND! Eventually with more members the goal is to reduce the price or perhaps even do a monthly membership and attend at will, similar to a gym.
5. We meet at Palapa Bar dock before 6am, as the boat will depart on time. Once we reach a safe starting point away from boat traffic, we jump in and go! The swim lasts between 45 minutes and an hour, we return to the dock by 7am or shortly thereafter. (If there is an emergency or someone is tired they can always get back in the boat!)
6. Look around you! To be able to become acquainted with our Caribbean backyard and spot the incredible life sustained by the world's second largest barrier reef, get in the habit of looking up, in front of you and around! This is also very important for staying with your group and watching out to avoid fire coral, or accidentally surprising a grazing stingray or turtle.
7. Cost is currently $20BZD per person to cover our boat captain's time + gas. Space is limited to 10 people (incl. captain), so please commit asap to hold your spot. If your plans change, PLEASE update your attendance status on the Facebook event so that someone else can sign up! Exact change is appreciated.
8. Unless there is an active thunder/lightning storm at 530am, torrential downpour, or strong winds over 25mph, the swim is ON and boat will be there! I will update the status the morning of when the weather is questionable.
9. Goal is to return to dock at 7am. We look forward to growing our club to do big things within our community! Any and all feedback or suggestions for improvements, events, fundraisers, etc are welcome. We'd love to work with other non-profits on island to bring mutual benefit to our causes. See you in the sea!
