Took the Swedish M96 out into the mountains testing its range limits. 300 yards I found out very quickly was easy pickings for the 6.5 Swede round. Ended the day with an amazing sunset and exceptional photos.

The search for the Gewehr 98 has come to an end! This most recent acquisition is one of my keystone rifles or “grail guns” that I’ve been looking for for quite some time and in very decent condition. Being made in 1916, this particular rifle was produced at the much smaller V Chr Schilling factory set up during the war to accommodate the growing need for arms in a total war, this is reflected in its lighter beech stock and unit disk being replaced for a bolt disassembly ring in the buttstock.

On the receiver the Weimar eagle can be seen, this shows that this rifle stayed in Germany after the Armistice and was accepted into the Reichswehr military of the Weimar republic. The vast majority of Gew 98s were destroyed after 1918 in accordance with the treaty of Versailles demanding that the defeated Germany capitulate to the Entente powers. This has been one of my grail guns for quite some time and I’m incredibly happy to have snagged this Gewehr 98.

First used within the colonial context of the boxer rebellion and the Herero wars, the Gew 98 had limited use in conflict serving first as a rear line rifle but gradually replacing the Gewehr 88s being the superior rifle. Like the previous rifle used by Germany, Paul Ma**er had little to do with the final design as he was involved in trials for his own autoloading pistols. However, much of Ma**er’s legacy is seen in this rifle with the action and magazine being his primary design which was used in his most popular rifles that were adopted across the globe.

The sights are iconic for their aesthetic and ridiculousness. Designed for the newer S Patrone cartridge, the maximum distance calibrated goes up to 2000 yards. with the minimum point blank range being 400 yards one is forced to hold zero very low to their target that may only be a quarter of that distance.

Lee Enfield ASMR (No.1 Mk.III*) 07/09/2022

Incredibly astonished how well my first ASMR video of the No.1MkIII has done, over 100,000 views and counting!

Lee Enfield ASMR (No.1 Mk.III*) First attempt at an ASMR. Always loved the sound of the Lee enfield charger clip perfectly flying out, had to share that with y'all- - - - - - - - - - - - - ...

From C—ky guns to kinky guns

Loved the way the Type81SA came out in the refinishing process. Seeing it next to the Norinco 1897 reminded me how repulsive the original finish was. It would be too cruel to leave it as is so I gave it the same treatment as the previous norinco firearm with pleasing results

Easily my favorite long distance milsurp rifle, but it needs some work. I’ll be doing a repair post soon

The League of the Three Emperors

Three decades prior to the first world war, Otto von Bismarck as Germany’s chancellor negotiated for a future tripartite alliance between the three imperial powers of Europe, Germany, Austria Hungary and the Russian Empire if a new European conflict were to occur

While acting also as a military alliance, the League kept the balance of power in Eastern Europe with the imperial influence of the three empires. Emerging pan slavism would begin to alienate the German and Austrian powers who had begun to recognize the growing influence of Russia within the unstable region of the Balkans

Bismarck would be sacked by Wilhelm II of Germany in 1890 and take ahold of his diplomatic affairs. Through this action Wilhelm had begun to alienate the Russians who were already seeking an alliance with France. This is but one chapter in the road to world war.

Interesting story behind this post, I uploaded a few photos of this M95 ammunition on the Instagram page which included the headstamp marked with the emblem of the third reich which is an eagle holding the sw****ka. I not only had my post taken down but AbbyMilsurps was wiped out of existence for a good 10 days. After several appeals i had gotten the page back minus this post.

Found this Bulgarian contract ammo pouch for the Mosin, unfortunately the leather is in pretty bad condition and had the tabs ripped off. This looks suspiciously like a German Ma**er pouch cut down for Russian use.
