Thank BCWF for your ongoing advocacy.
Good News!
As a result of BCWF advocacy on Bill 4 the Firearm Violence Prevention Act a number of provisions which would have had devastating impacts on rifle ranges, and fi****ms owners have now been excluded through Order In Council 156/2026.
These exemptions include Part 4 which would have required most ranges to have a Range Officer on premises to check ID of every participant, including youth, as well as maintain a log of users. The regulations would have cost ranges tens of thousands of dollars per year, effectively shuttering numerous ranges in B.C.
The BCWF remains concerned about Part 8, which authorizes medical professionals to breach confidentiality with their patients. Members of our committee include veterans have raised concerns that individuals living with PTSD may avoid seeking help if health care providers might report them.
The BCWF will continue to advocate on behalf of our members, lawful fi****ms owners and our clubs which operate safe and responsible shooting ranges many of which currently allow access to Provincial and Federal agency training.
To see a list of the exceptions please go to Order in Council 156/2026 - https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/oic/oic_cur/0156_2026
