Our president report was so well done we just HAD to share!
This season has been one of the most exciting and energizing years we’ve had in a long time.
In fact, we had one of our largest groups of skaters in over six years, which is incredible. It’s amazing to see that much energy, talent, and enthusiasm on the ice. And yes, also amazing to see that many kids somehow lose their water bottles every single week. 🤣
We hosted a very successful Western Elite Circuit event, and I want to highlight how much work went into that. Events like that don’t just “happen.” They take planning, volunteers, patience, and the ability to stay calm when someone inevitably asks, “Where are the lap counters?” five minutes before race time.
We also had some fantastic community moments. Abigail McCluskey joined us for a Skate for All event, which brought so much joy and inspiration to our skaters. And of course, the Abbotsford Police Department came out not once, but twice to clock our skaters’ speed. Nothing motivates kids quite like being told, “Okay, skate fast… the police are watching.”
On the support side, we received grants from ViaSport and Speed Skating Canada, which helped us continue keeping our club strong.
And our fundraisers — soup, poinsettias, and first aid kits were all a hit. Only in speed skating do you get a combination like “flowers, soup, and emergency medical supplies,” and somehow it all makes perfect sense!
Our parent volunteers were absolutely outstanding this year. Truly the heart of this club is the people who show up, pitch in, and make things run smoothly. From helping at events, to organizing fundraisers, to showing up early and staying late to set up and take down mats — you were incredible. And honestly, our skaters were fast this season… but our mat crew might have been even faster. If mat setup was an Olympic event, we’d be sending a whole team. 💪🏼
And I want to give a special shout-out to Janna, who went above and beyond in every possible way. If there was a job to be done, she was already halfway through it before anyone even asked.
Coach Keven and his crew of wonder assistant volunteer coaches had a fantastic year with the kids. The growth, the development, the confidence all showed. Every skater made progress, every skater pushed themselves, and every skater had moments they can be proud of. 🎉
This season wasn’t just successful — it was meaningful. It was fun. It was full of momentum. And the best part is we’re still building.
Next season is going to be even stronger. More development. More opportunities. More community. More moments where our skaters surprise themselves, and maybe even surprise the police radar gun again.
Thank you to everyone — coaches, parents, volunteers, board members, and of course, our
amazing skaters — for making this year what it was.
Let’s keep the energy going. Let’s keep supporting each other. And let’s make next season our fastest, strongest, and most memorable yet!
