We are extremely excited to offer Grassroot Volleyball Training Sessions at a new facility up at the Abbotsford Tradex called OpenCourt! NEWWAVE Volleyball was founded by UBC Men’s Volleyball and Youth National Team Assistant Coach Matt Krueger as a platform to provide athlete’s with training environments that optimize learning, development and skill acquisition. Using evidence-based motor learning principles allows athletes of all ages to productively improve, transfer and retain volleyball skills and knowledge. These motor learning concepts boost learning, increase motivation and positively improve skill development and performance levels in volleyball athletes.
Athletes of all levels will enjoy a FUN and SAFE learning environment while being introduced to the sport of volleyball. This volleyball training will focus on overall skill development with emphasis on individual skill improvement such as serving, passing, setting, attacking and defense. Creating an exciting age-specific volleyball environment will allow the athletes to experience more success, enjoy the game of volleyball and want to continue playing the sport!
The “Introduction to Volleyball” program is created for athletes who are interested in the sport of volleyball, but have no experience playing. In these sessions, the athletes will be exposed to volleyball for the first time, in a very fun and enjoyable environment. The “Beginner Skill Development” program is designed for athletes who are familiar with volleyball and are excited about improving in the sport!
Matt grew up in Abbotsford and went to MEI where he graduated in 2009. He loves working with younger athletes and is super excited to give back to the volleyball community in his hometown!

We are very excited to offer something unique to the marketplace. Something we feel is missing in the local landscape to truly propel athletes to the next level using methods that are tried, tested and proven from a coaching staff who have been there and done it. Open Court Academy is on and off court training for the committed athlete.
This is a 6 week program offering which encompasses on court skill and development, situational / cognitive components, athletic development as well as off-court seminars and guest speakers.
