We are thrilled to announce Leichel Duerksen has been appointed as the FVT Manager, Operations for the 2026-27 season.

Leichel will oversee the operations of the program to ensure everything is running smoothly and all organizational needs are being met. Leichel has volunteered with Abbotsford Minor Hockey since 2016, holding a multitude of roles including 2nd Vice President, director and coordinator. Leichel brings a combination of strong administration, organizational experience, passion, and knowledge of minor hockey operations that aligns perfectly with the BCEHL. Outside of hockey Leichel is an Education Assistant Program Coordinator for Vancouver Career College which has many parallel responsibilities to the FVT Manager, Operations role.

We are thrilled to announce Riley Emmerson has been appointed as the FVT Manager, Hockey for the 2026-27 season.

This role will allow Riley to use his experience and knowledge to support the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds program while continuing to fulfill his responsibilities as the U15 AAA Head Coach.

Ryley Green, a dedicated forward from Chilliwack, BC, has completed an impressive four-year tenure with the Thunderbirds program. Throughout his time with the team, Ryley consistently demonstrated tenacity on the ice, strong hockey sense, and a reliable left-handed shot that kept defenders honest. Beginning his hockey journey with Chilliwack Minor Hockey, he carried that hard work ethic and passion through every season with the Thunderbirds, earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike.

As Ryley moves into the next chapter of his career, we offer our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes. Whether he pursues further opportunities in hockey or explores new paths, the experiences and friendships he built during his time with the Thunderbirds will stay with him. Mason Clegg, a talented goalie from Langley, BC, has concluded a remarkable four-year with the Thunderbirds program. Throughout his time, Mason showcased his exceptional skills in the net while playing for the U15, U17, and U18 teams. His quick reflexes, strong positioning, and ability to maintain composure under pressure made him a standout player and a crucial asset to our lineup.

Sahill Gill, a dedicated defenseman from Abbotsford, BC, has completed an incredible three‑year journey with the Thunderbirds. From U15 to U17 and finally U18, Sahill consistently demonstrated his strong work ethic, steady presence on the blue line, and unwavering commitment to his teammates. His reliability, leadership, and passion for the game made him an essential part of our program and a player we were proud to have on our roster.

🦅We are excited to announce the coach of our U17 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds is Chris Helm.🦅

Chris is a dedicated and passionate hockey coach whose journey in the sport began as a player in the Mission and New Westminster Minor Hockey Associations, progressing to the Pacific International Junior Hockey League (PIJHL) with the Abbotsford Pilots and competing at a higher level in the BC Hockey Senior AA program with the Powell River Regals. Currently, Chris has spent the last four seasons with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds, serving as an assistant coach for U15 and U17 teams, and he has also shared his expertise as an evaluator and coach at BC Hockey’s Program of Excellence (POE) camps for the past five years. His extensive coaching experience, dedication to player development, and active role in the hockey community, including serving as Vice President and co-chair of the development committee on the MMHA board, make him well-equipped to lead our U17 team to success both on and off the ice.
