Both the Airdrie Phoenix Swim Club and the NoseCreek SwimAssociation have advocated for a 50m pool for nearly a decade 🏊🏼‍♂️. It was greatly disappointing to see the exclusion of a 50m pool from the 3 options presented for aquatics.

This not only affects training sessions but the city's ability to attract regional and provincial events 🌆. These events bring valuable dollars to local businesses, and help preserve spending in Airdrie, rather than it going to Calgary.

In option # 1️⃣(in the survey) there is enough space for a 50m pool if the small seperation between the 2 pools is replaced by a bulkhead and if the cold plunge pool is slightly reduced.

Airdrie is the 5️⃣th largest city in Alberta and the only city among the 8 largest cities in AB without a 50m pool. It shouldn’t be a difficult decision to bring Airdrie’s recreational facilities to the provincial standard. A 25m pool in this New Rec Center means that it will be another 30-35 years before Airdrie has a 50m Olympic sized pool.

This significantly limits the capacity for sport development and sports tourism 🏈. While it harms the sports and economic interests, it pushes Airdrie’s youth and future generations away from The City of Airdrie 👥

Please complete the City of Airdrie survey for the New SW Recreational Center and make your voice heard!
