Hello Survivors!

We're posting early today because, well, it's Friday, and let's be honest, some of you just want to know if you should be celebrating tonight!

We also decided it would be more fun to add some additional suspense, so we eliminated 30 more players rather than 32, leaving five for final eliminations. Without further delay, here are the final five contenders... Remember, the final three will win WINE!!!!

Vicki Flavel - Cork It
Marilyn Oldfield - Pinot Envy
Stephanie Robertson - BAR Team
Kris Norman - Just Corked
Donna Brock - Had Me at Merlot

Congratulations to these players and teams, and a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated and supported our swimmers! We appreciate you!

The last 30...

Good evening Survivors!

Tonight's elimination brings us to the brink... 24 hours until 155 bottles of wine will go to their forever homes (and by forever I mean their contents will likely be remembered fondly forever as the empty bottles go to join other vessels of happiness in the local bottle depot 😂😂).

We're not going to lie, tonight was rough. 8 more teams were eliminated with one press of a button. Please join us in a moment of silence as we pay tribute to our fallen comrades:
We Don't Whine!
Merlot Mavericks
Pouring and Soaring
Bottle to the Throttle
Corks are for Quitters
Pour Choices 2
Deep Blue Team
Rosé All Day

I was going to write a poem to honour our recently departed friends, but it turns out I am not a poet (I think my fifth grade teacher hinted at this truth that I am only now sadly accepting) 😎

In lieu of a poem, let's turn our attention to the 11 teams who are heading into the final draw with at least two players still in the game... Congratulations to the following teams for making it this far:
Team Cork It! - Drunkin' Donuts - Call Me a Cab - Cork Dorks - Pinot Envy - Cork Suckers - Smilin Sippers - BAR Team - Just Corked - Had Me at Merlot - Novinophobia

Tomorrow the final 35 names go into the draw. 32 will be eliminated, leaving the final three to be eliminated one at a time, determining first through third place.

One more sleep folks! Sweet dreams!

Welcome to day three, draw three...

As I was preparing to press the button that triggered tonight's eliminations I was curious about what the odds were for those still in the draw… and as I thought about it, I wondered what the odds were for the lottery...

For those of you who play the lottery…here are some interesting stats from a CBC article a few years ago…

Those of us who do play the lottery — and approximately one-quarter of Canadians play weekly — may have heard these odds before.

Pay $2 and your odds of becoming a millionaire are approximately 1 in 14 million.
Your odds are even worse for winning Lotto Max. For $5, you are buying a one in 28,633,528 chance at winning at least $15 million.

Those odds are so long that you are more likely to:
- Be killed in a terrorist attack while travelling (1 in 650,000).
- Die — during an average lifetime — of flesh-eating disease (1 in
one million).
- Be killed by lightning (1 in 56,439).
- You are three times more likely to be killed in a traffic accident
driving 16 kilometres to buy your ticket than winning the
jackpot.
- In 2002, you were about 10 times more likely to die after being
bitten by a poisonous snake or lizard than to win a Lotto 6/49
jackpot. Odds for the snakebite death are one in 1,241,661,
according to the U.S. National Safety Council.
- Want to increase your chances? Buy 50 tickets a week. You are
very likely to win the jackpot at least once — in 5,000 years.
- Say you're standing on a football field. You're blindfolded and
holding a pin. A friend has released an ant on the field. Your
chance of piercing that ant with your pin is about the same as
winning a Lotto 6/49 jackpot. One in 14 million. Not exactly a
sure bet.
- You can increase your odds — for a price. You could try to buy
enough tickets to cover all possible six number combinations,
but at two bucks a shot, that comes out to $27,967,632.

So what is the moral of the story? Your odds of winning Wine Survivor are WAY better! Unless you belong to Wine Ohs who, sadly, were eliminated tonight. Until tomorrow....

Here are the rest of tonights picks...

Well folks, day 2 was rough for some teams!

An additional 30 players have been eliminated, leaving only one team completely intact of the original 31 in the race. Congratulations to Pouring and Soaring, and may you enjoy one more carefree sleep!

Other teams have been less lucky... Bottle to Throttle and Wine Ohs each have only one team member still in the draw, while the following teams each have two remaining:
Cork Soakers
Call Us a Cab
Merlot Mavericks
Cork It
BAR Team
Sip Happens
Rosé All Day

Here's what's on the line....
The last person standing will win 80 bottles for their team (16 bottles per person); The second place winner will take home 50 bottles for their team (10 per person); and the third place winner will take home 25 bottles (5 per team member).
