ARISAIG, N.S. — In a long awaited Friday evening classic in Arisaig, a dominant pitching performance from Pat Laffin and a timely home run by Travis McCarron helped Arisaig edge Heatherton 4-3 on Thursday night.
Laffin was outstanding on the mound, throwing a gem while striking out seven batters and keeping Heatherton’s lineup in check for much of the game. Craig McCarron earned the win in relief, recording a strikeout to preserve the narrow victory.
Despite taking the loss, Heatherton’s Paul Purcell turned in a strong performance of his own, striking out nine batters and keeping his club within striking distance throughout the contest.
Arisaig’s offense was led by Travis McCarron, who enjoyed a big night at the plate with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. McCarron’s timely home run gave the Blues a 4-3 lead, a lead they would not surrender. Trent MacDonald added two triples and an RBI, while Grant MacDonald contributed a double as Arisaig generated just enough offense to come away with the win.
Heatherton battled until the final out behind contributions from several hitters. Josh Wood drove in two runs with a single, while Dan Pettipas collected three hits, including a double and two singles. Burton Chisholm Sr. added an RBI in the losing effort.
Behind Laffin’s stellar outing on the mound, McCarron’s clutch blast, and timely hitting throughout the lineup, Arisaig held off a late Heatherton rally to secure the 4-3 victory. The win provides valuable momentum as the Blues continue their push up the league standings.
