🛹 StFX University Human Kinetics Skateboarding – Class 6.1 🛹
In Class 6.1, we worked on shifting our weight from the tail, to the nose, and then back to a balanced position over both feet.
This is a great exercise and maneuver for building a strong foundation for learning other skateboard tricks. It teaches students how to control their balance, shift their centre of gravity, and understand how the board responds to their movements.
In many ways, this maneuver is a slowed-down version of the ollie. The same basic weight-shifting concepts are there — just broken down into smaller, more controlled movements.
Once everyone was comfortable with the nose-to-tail weight shift, we added a 180° nose revert. This introduced another important part of skateboarding: getting our shoulders involved in the movement and learning how our upper body helps initiate and control rotations.
Shoulder movement is an important foundation for learning many different skateboard tricks. By starting with a simple, controlled maneuver, students can begin to understand how their shoulders, hips, feet and board all work together.
Another step in the progression! 🛹
Great work, Class 6.1! Keep progressing, keep experimenting, and remember — falling down is part of learning how to get back up.
