🥅 Is your skate sharpening helping your game... or holding you back?

One of the biggest misconceptions in goaltending is that there’s a “perfect” skate hollow. The truth is, the best hollow is the one that matches your skating ability, playing style, and the ice conditions.

Here’s the basic idea:

🔹 Deeper hollow = More bite, more grip, less glide

🔹 Shallower hollow = More glide, easier movement, less bite

If you feel like you’re constantly fighting the ice, a small adjustment to your sharpening could make a noticeable difference. Just remember - make changes gradually. Even moving one step (like 1/2” to 5/8”) can completely change how your skates feel.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, and even NHL goalies use a wide range of hollows. The key is finding the setup that helps you move with confidence and efficiency.
