On October 7, 2012 I ran my first marathon.

I QUICKLY told people I would never do that again.

I ended up doing again… and again… and again… 🩵

This year will be my 13th Chicago Marathon .

I only missed in 2020 for the pandemic, and in 2021 because Boston was the next day.

I ran my first five Chicago Marathons for charity, raising $5000 US for thyroid cancer.

Now, because of my streak, I get automatic entry every year as a legacy finisher.

This year Chicago Marathon will be my 50th full marathon (specifically the 42.2K distance).

This year I get to take all my girls to watch.

October 12th can’t come soon enough!

Part of my grit training for ultras is doing long runs on the treadmill… that’s a long time to stare at the same spot on the wall… 🫠

Today’s was made easier by the 14 hours of sleep I got last night!

It was an amazing first week back teaching for me at Faculty of Education and Conestoga College … but clearly, aunty was TIRED!!

Next 100km attempt is next Saturday at That Dam Hill in London.

Now that I’ve put it out there, there is no backing out! 😄

As Indigenous people we believe that running the land is praying with your feet. 👣 🙏🏽

Stepping foot on Mother Earth connects us to the land and all of Creation.

Today’s run was not a good one for me, but even a not so good run teaches you if you are willing to listen.

Last weekend I was crushing (for me!) a sub 5 marathon in Sydney.

Today my body gave out very early on and I had to walk way more than I had planned.

Humility is one of the Seven Grandfather teachings and trail running always reminds me to always be grateful for the good days, and also to learn from the bad days.

Because no matter the pace, is there really even such a thing as a bad day on the trails?

Miigwetch for another slow but gratitude-filled day on the local trail.

Last year I threw my name into the Sydney marathon lottery on a whim, knowing how rare it is to win a lottery slot in a world major.

Then late last fall, as I was running on the treadmill watching Blue Jays World Series baseball, I noticed a credit card charge come through my account- I got in! 😱

Now what?

Not going to lie, this one scared me a bit! I have never been this far from home, and as a single mom, I worried about being that far from my kids.

With my spinal cord injury I also have a very hard time sitting for extended periods and 26 hours of travel seemed incomprehensible.

Then of course there was the cost.

That all said, I am a huge believer in listening to signs from the universe. When things like this happen, I truly believe it’s a sign to take a risk- so I did!!

Then I suddenly got laid off from my job in March and I thought “what am I doing?” 😫

The internal struggle with this was real, but I still hung on to the belief that I got in for a reason and never gave up hope.

Sure enough, I ended up landing my dream full time job this spring, starting TOMORROW, and everything I worried about worked out, right down to the exact day.

I have burned a lot of to***co in prayer over the last year. 🍂 🔥 🙏🏽

I never take anything in my life for granted.

Sydney, you were meant to be, you were magical, and you were beyond my wildest dreams!! 🩵🩵🩵🇦🇺💫

Cape Town next? 😍
