Krav Maga Fitness Blog

Everyone chooses to go back to the gym for different reasons. For myself, I wanted to feel like a capable, healthy person again. Two years of cancelled team sports and rare visits with friends and family really hit me hard. I missed the camaraderie, challenges, and acceptance I found among other people.

I am the type of person that can’t seem to motivate myself unless someone else is doing it too. Call it competitiveness, but I think it’s more than that. It’s knowing that I have someone to go through the journey with me and encourage me along the way, and maybe I could do the same for them in return. I like knowing that I can look forward to that personal aspect of any activity. And that is exactly what I got when I headed back to the gym this February.

Starting the Ignite challenge at Spartan was one of the most normal things I’d done in a long time. Getting out of the house to do something that directly affects my own physical, mental and emotional health is one of the most empowering things I could do. Don’t get me wrong, Krav Maga is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of heading to a fitness class. However, I do think it is the most unique, and the Spartan gym has always been an incredibly warm and welcoming community for me. After the first two weeks, I already feel stronger, and the motivation I feel at the gym has begun to steep into other areas of my life, and change them for the better.
