Burloak Aikikai Aikido Aikido for beginners & experienced We welcome new people to join us in starting the day off right with a good sweaty aikido practice!!!

This dojo began in 2017 when Ben Peacock started teaching some early morning classes to Shudokan Family Karate members and friends in the Oakville-Burlington-Hamilton area as a summer pilot project. The students' response was very positive and we are grateful to Shudokan's Nakamura-sensei for offering us his space to continue training! Ben Peacock has a 6th-dan from the Aikikai, and has trained consistently for 40 years in many places around the world, including over a decade of regular practice at the headquarters (Hombu) in Tokyo. We have four practices a week: Mon & Wed evenings 9:00-10:15pm and Sat & Sun mornings 8:15-9:30am.

We are honored to welcome John Brinsley (6th dan Shihan) — chief instructor at Aikido Daiwa, Burbank CA.

From Kobe beginnings in ’91 to years at Hombu Dojo under Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu and T. Miyamoto Sensei, John Brinsley shihan’s Aikido journey spans continents 🌏🥋

He’s trained with legends like A. Tohei, Y. Yamada, S. Sugano, and K. Chiba Sensei, and now leads Aikido Daiwa in Burbank, CA.

Congratulations to Zeman on earning his 2nd kyu!

He’s one of those members who maintains a steady presence in training. Whether here at Burloak or back home in Romania, he always finds a dojo and keeps practicing.

His steady commitment is something we truly respect. ☺️ And it’s something that really encourages all of us in its own quiet way.

And though his expression rarely changes, we all wait for those rare, precious smiles — they’re worth the wait every time! 😄

And when we do catch one of those rare smiles, it totally makes our day!🤭💕

We all grew up in different countries, and our Aikido experience varies a lot, but when it’s just us girls, we eat, laugh, and talk nonstop. That’s the kind of girls’ gathering we have at our dojo — it never runs out of stories.🤭

We're very excited to invite you to a unique seminar led by ten senior Aikido instructors from across North America. Besides an overwhelming passion for Aikido, they all share that they trained intensively for various lengths of time at Hombu in the late 90s. They will each lead a one-hour class at Burloak Aikikai, in Burlington, over Friday-Saturday-Sunday, November 13th-15th.
