This past Sunday, while speaking to parents at our very first Empower FC tryout, it hit me — we were standing on the exact field where I started Empower Futbol back in 2016. I used to sneak onto this very field and train players in the end zone while other clubs had the official space (yes, I know… not exactly by the book lol).

Standing there this weekend, watching our all-girls academy take shape, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come — from quietly grinding in the shadows to having our own beautiful facility that’s been completely transformed. It’s unrecognizable in the best way, because we brought it to life with passion, vision, and relentless work.

⚽️To every young girl chasing her soccer dreams:
Keep going.
Even when it’s hard.
Especially when it’s hard.
Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Be kind to others and to yourself. Stay curious. Keep learning. Know what you’re working toward — and trust that your goals live just beyond discipline, hard work, and purpose.

We’re just getting started. ⚽💫

After a crazy week of camp with the girlies, I finally have a second of silence to pause and reflect. It’s been an exciting summer filled with newness: new business venture, new connections, new perspectives, new opportunities, and new personal growth. I can’t help but look back on this past decade and see how far Empower and I have come. There have been some big lessons learned.

We spend so much time looking forward at what comes next - as an entrepreneur, I feel as if that’s all I’ve done for so many years - and I’ve been very mindful lately to give myself permission to be in the present. The email will get answered, I will call that parent back, and the endless projects will all find their way across the finish line in the right time.

The present gives us so much, and when I am present, I soak in all of the awesomeness that comes with it; giggles, off-pitch singing (some might call it screaming), reading beautiful notes from the girls, celebrating milestones with the players. It all feels better than the “what comes next”, because you can plan all you want, but the present will always be what it is (or isn’t).

What I mean to say is, in the midst of all of the hustle - and trust me, I know what the grind is, I have been conditioned to grind my whole life - take a second and soak in the now. Focus less on what’s to come, and see the joy in what is right in front of you.

I continue to feel such gratitude for Empower, and for the gift that I have been blessed with. My intention will always be to do right by all the players and families I have the privilege of supporting ⚽️💙

Lately, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what I needed when I was a collegiate athlete and what we’re still missing when it comes to supporting young women in sports. We ask so much of them physically, but sometimes forget they’re people first.

This week, I asked the university-level players I coach to write down one word that describes what they love about themselves. It was a simple exercise, but the responses made me realize just how often athletes don’t get a chance to reflect on their worth beyond their sport.

I don’t believe athletes are just bodies to be pushed harder. They’re people who need space to grow in different ways—and when that happens, it makes them better both on the field and off.

Years ago, a soccer dad told me he was taking his daughter to a male coach because he believed she would get more out of the training. His reasoning? That a male trainer could help her become a better player.

It stung at the time, but looking back, it reflects a much larger issue we face in sports: the belief that male coaches somehow hold the key to high-level training for young women. It’s a bias that’s ingrained in how we view coaching, even though we know it’s not true. It’s not about gender—it’s about being a coach who sees athletes for who they are as people, and who understands the bigger picture when it comes to their growth.

I train athletes from ages 8 to pro, and regardless of level, one thing is clear: sports should be about connection—people connecting through the game, not just pushing limits.

These young women deserve coaches who see them for who they are, not just what they can do on the field. They need someone who understands that pushing them physically is just one part of the equation—nurturing their growth as whole people is what truly makes a difference.

So to all the athletes out there: You are more than what you do in your sport. You’re a whole person. And you deserve coaches who see that.

Did you know that nearly 60% of girls in Canada drop out of sports by the age of 16? 😔 The reasons are many – from lack of confidence and feeling unsupported to gender stereotypes and a lack of representation in leadership roles. These barriers can have lasting effects on girls’ self-esteem and future aspirations.

At Empower Futbol, we’re doing things differently. 💪 Our player development approach is rooted in leading research and is designed to meet each girl where she is. We focus on building strong, inclusive communities that cater to the unique experiences and backgrounds of every player. No girl is the same – and they deserve personalized attention that supports their growth, both on and off the field. 🌍

Our coaches are not just experts in soccer, they are passionate leaders and mentors dedicated to keeping girls in sport. ❤️ We believe in a safe, empowering environment where every girl can dream big – whether that’s lifting a Ballon d’Or or simply growing in confidence. We’re here to make those dreams a reality, cheering them on every step of the way. ⚽✨

At Empower Futbol, we’re in it for all the right reasons. 💫 Let’s keep girls in the game, and let them show the world what they’re made of.

This past weekend Coach Chelsea had the privilege of speaking to some incredible young women at .london fifth year of all girls soccer tournament.

This tournament brings together clubs from across the province to compete, but better yet, raise money and awareness for an important cause: . The more that girls know, the better equipped they are to manage the harsh realities of abuse.

Thank you .london for having Coach Chelsea come out! 💗⚽️
