Achilles and knee pain are extremely common among marathon runners. 🏃 🏃

In fact, research shows:

📈 Up to 27% experience persistent knee pain ("runner's knee")

📈 Up to 7.4% of marathon runners face Achilles issues

Why does this happen? The repetitive stress from long-distance running, combined with fatigue, can alter your running mechanics and increase tendon strain, leading to chronic pain.

Many runners reach for stretching first, which is understandable because it feels good. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really solve stubborn tendon problems.

Studies clearly show that eccentric exercises (like eccentric squats) and heavy slow resistance (HSR) exercises (like leg presses) are significantly more effective. These targeted exercises stimulate collagen regeneration, reduce abnormal nerve and blood vessel growth, and build stronger, more resilient tendons.

Matt Baranowicz is our new Athletic Therapist / Strength & Conditioning Coach at SCIENCED Athletics!

We're thrilled to have Matt on board to help our athletes and clients achieve peak health and performance. Matt comes to us with a wealth of expertise in soccer and high-performance training as Head Athletic Therapist with the Vancouver Whitecaps. We are excites to have Matt guide our athletes along their return-to-play pathways. 🏃‍♂️⚽

And in true SCIENCED fashion, he skillfully bridges the gap between clinical insight and real-world application, with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from York University and a Master’s in Advanced Athletic Training from the University of South Florida.

With his strong background in elite sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, and performance optimization, Matt’s comprehensive approach integrates deep knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries with advanced strength and conditioning techniques. 🏋️‍♂️
