Congratulations to Michal Smiesko at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Ranking Race - Montgomery, Alabama on March 13th. Michal placed 6th overall from this international field where he finished as the top ranked Canadian athlete, and all this despite being only 16 years old. Michal is a member of TeamBC, he trains year-round in Chilliwack, BC with his coach Stanislava Smieskova, and he is on the CKC National Training Squad. Michal, we wish you every success in your 2026 season.

The Nanaimo Canoe Kayak Club (NCKC) is excited to host the first paddling event and regatta of the 2026 season at Long Lake in Nanaimo on April 11β12, 2026.
The weekend begins on Saturday with NCKC Aquatic Day β Long Lake Opening, featuring opportunities to paddle and try a range of disciplines including surfskis, SUPs, big boats, kayak polo and canoes.
On Sunday, the NCKC Long Distance & Marathon Regatta will bring athletes of all ages together to race distances from 3 km to 27 km, with events for kayak, canoe, surfski, outrigger, SUP, and team boats.
This multi-discipline event welcomes youth, adult and masters paddlers, and we hope clubs from across the province will join us to launch the 2026 paddling season together.
