We officially have founding member #1 of the The Den - Blinky Blinkhorn

(I know several people wanted to be #1, but he made it impossible to compete with - he sent money first, then asked questions later lol. And it means a lot to have people fighting over #1.)

Here's the situation:

Shortly after I wrote the post earlier - I got an email for a quote I was waiting on.

This quote was supposed to be for $10k-15k.

It ended up $40k after tax.

So I called my bank back - they called yesterday when I was sick.

Waited 50 minutes on the phone.

To be told I was denied funding because the business hasn't made a profit (no s**t).

Needless to say, after a few tears, and Blinky's incredible moment of kindness, including a call reminding me how much we all want this, he encouraged me to set this page up.

A Kickstarter of sorts. But our own.

I wanted to do something like this with the memberships - but I have problems promising things when I'm not sure exactly what date we're going to open.

I don't expect anyone to help. This was my decision to start this, and I will find a way no matter what to get it done. Even if it means credit cards and 20% interest rates.

The lowest price of entry is $25. A bat raffle price. Your name on the wall forever as an official founder of The Den. With higher price points and better offers, more freebies and etc.

If you cannot help you shouldn't.

Patience is a virtue that life will continue to teach me. It is my weakest trait.

We still do not have permits yet.

And to note, we are not blaming anyone, just speaking truth through an update.

We did everything on our end as fast as we could to make this happen in a timely matter. My architect, who has been in the business for 30 years, was confident we'd be able to launch October 1st when I signed the lease early July. I followed his guidance and trusted his process,

Doing the math in my head, we will be lucky if we can open November 1st at this rate. 3 weeks to build out the septic, washrooms and exhaust systems, if we're lucky and everything goes right. Plus inspections and final approvals.

We are paying monthly for rent on a facility we cannot open, and for HitTrax and pitching machines we cannot use. On top of all the money it takes to actually fulfill those requirements.

We will be releasing our memberships as well as an Opening Day swag pack tomorrow in hopes to have some pre-revenue come in.

It's all especially frustrating as this is a business that effectively only can make money during the winter months. While we believe we're in a good position to have more traffic in summer than other places, it doesn't change the stress level involved.

We don't like asking for money for business we cannot promise a date on. But we will obviously return the favour ten-fold to those who support us early.
