When the unexpected happens, Albertaโ€™s horse community is here to help.

In light of the recent fire at CFB Wainwright and the damaging winds experienced across Alberta this past weekend, we want to remind Alberta horse owners about AEFโ€™s Equine Emergency Disaster Fund.

The fund provides financial support for eligible equine-related expenses resulting from significant emergencies or disasters, including costs such as temporary boarding, feed and water, emergency veterinary care, and evacuation transportation.

The fund is now available year-round, and applications must be submitted within six months of the emergency or disaster that affected you.

If you or someone in Albertaโ€™s horse community has been impacted, please learn more, review eligibility and apply:

Please share. You never know who in our equine community may need this support. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿด

Buying a horse is a big decision, and a pre-purchase exam can help you make it with more information. ๐Ÿฉบ

A pre-purchase exam isnโ€™t about finding a โ€œperfectโ€ horse or simply passing or failing the one youโ€™re considering. It gives you a clearer picture of the horseโ€™s health at that moment and provides an opportunity to discuss any findings with your veterinarian.

The exam can also be tailored to what you hope to do with your new horse. A horse being considered for a particular discipline or level of competition may have different considerations than one intended for recreational riding.

Ultimately, the decision to purchase is yours. Having objective veterinary information can help you better understand the horse in front of you and decide whether they are the right fit for your goals.

If horse shopping is part of your plans this fall, swipe through to learn more about equine pre-purchase exams. ๐Ÿ‚

๐Ÿ‚ Happy Thanksgiving from the Alberta Equestrian Federation! ๐Ÿ‚

This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for the horses that inspire us, the people who support us, and the communities that make Alberta's equestrian industry so special.

From ranch lands and foothill trails to arenas, showgrounds, and riding facilities across the province, Alberta's equestrian community has so much to be thankful for. We celebrate the members, volunteers, coaches, officials, facility owners, clubs, and industry partners who help make our community strong.

Whether you're spending the weekend at the barn, on the trail, at a competition, or gathered around the table with family and friends, we wish you a safe, relaxing, and joyful Thanksgiving.

What are you thankful for this year? ๐Ÿ๐Ÿด
