Hey, quick heads up! Kanfest is on July 10-12 this year (earlier than usual).
Early bird pricing ends May 8 if anyone’s thinking about going. Always a good weekend. A mix of events, paddling, live music and hanging out.
Venture Media House will be there filming the whole thing too.

The Waterwerks Kayak Club annual Penguin Race is fast approaching.
The annual kick off to the kayak season, the Penguin Race.
Don’t let the name fool you. This is more than a fun race! Great socializing, food and summer planning!
Events for all ages and abilities (must have a comfortable wet exit).
This year the Penguin Race will be May 2.
The race will be held on the irrigation canal at the Bow Waters Canoe Club and will be a head to head Kayak Cross race. This exciting race will have different levels of competition for all abilities. The canal is flat and moves very slowly. There will be a course constructed with gates for paddlers to navigate.
Fun, food and prizes for all ages! Don’t forget to dress up as a penguin!

Summer Kayak Coach/Instructor
The Waterwerks Kayak Club located in Calgary, Alberta, is currently hiring seasonal river kayak
instructors for May-Aug 2026.
The Waterwerks Kayak Club runs an extensive Youth Kayak program
The ideal candidate will possess a CKC L2/I2 or higher certification. However, the club is willing to help certify the right candidate. Solid Class 2 river paddling skills are required.
The Waterwerks Kayak Club offers youth programming in conjunction with the Bow Waters Canoe Club, as such, some flatwater canoe instruction may be required.
Job Description:
Canoe/Kayak Instructor
$18-$22/hr based on experience and certifications. Guaranteed 36 hrs/wk.
May 1 to Aug 30
Duties:
- Instruct school group canoe and/or kayak courses.
- Instruct youth summer canoe and/or kayak day camps.
- Instruct adult and youth club programs
- Assist in equipment maintenance.
- Assist in rentals operations.
- Assist in office administration.
- Assist with club promotion.
- Learn and Follow safety procedures and emergency action plan.
** WKC is willing to train the right person**
The person we are looking for should possess the following traits:
* an ability to work in a self directed and focused manner
* enjoy working with school aged participants
* excellent people & communication skills – both direct and
phone
* ability to organize and stay organized while dealing with daily
operations
* outgoing personality
* flexible
* extensive river paddling background
* physical ability to perform lifting and moving kayaks, canoes
and equipment
* flexible schedule (days, eves, weekends)
Staff skill and safety training is provided. Necessary certification courses are offered at a significantly
reduced rate to staff.

The Waterwerks Kayak Club Annual Yr End Party and AGM will be January 17 6pm at the Bow Waters Canoe Club. 1975 26 st se.
Fun for the whole family!
6:00pm doors open
6:30pm we will start with the potluck dinner.
7:00pm ish we will begin the AGM. Reporting, voting and done. Fastest AGM in the west.
7:30pm socializing, finish eating, videos.
8:00pm the great gift exchange. Bring a recycled wrapped gift. Something you don’t use, didn’t like, whatever. Can be new or lightly used. You never know what you are going home with.Please sign up here so we know how many people are coming and who to expect.

Drop In Pool sessions start up in November.
The Waterwerks Kayak Club has Drop in Pool sessions at the Bob Bahan Pool Wednesday evenings 6:30-8:00pm. $15/session or buy a pool pass.
Drop in Pool ‘25/‘26 – waterwerks.ca Join us at for a drop in pool session. You can bring your own kayak and gear or use a club boat (subject to availability).

The Waterwerks Kayak Club Lil Tykes program is perfect for kids age 5-10. They will learn how to safely get in and out, steer and most importantly, have fun kayaking!
The progression moves at their speed and focusses on having fun in the boats and making new friends!
The club provides kid size boats and gear.
Starts November 5. Bob Bahan Pool in Forest Lawn.
