Quality over quantity… Whether we’re working with an 11-year-old, a college athlete, or a professional player, the goal is the same.
Make the reps matter. Every drill should have a purpose. Every correction should have a reason. Every conversation should help the athlete understand what they’re trying to accomplish and why.
As coaches, we’re working with people’s dreams and goals. That’s a responsibility we never take lightly. Bring the energy. Bring the preparation. Bring the knowledge. Communicate clearly. Hold athletes accountable. Celebrate the breakthroughs. Correct what needs correcting. Then do it again tomorrow.
A small glimpse into a recent workout Nolan and I led in Japan with two W-League professionals. No highlights. No fancy edits. Just real player development.

Instead of boarding stationary cross in front through the legs behind the back… Try this instead.

Every guard needs this pace change!
Nolan and I teaching some of the Japanese W-League Guards how to use the downhill lift/float to engage the defender and then use pace change to explode by their hip.
Height & hand speed changes to warm up before the workout.
This is a great drill for guards. Having the ability to go from a standing (upright) position to dropping low and exploding past the defender catching them off guard is a must have 💼
One of our favorite ways to warm up our athletes handles right now is with the 94FT Small Ball by Phil Handy and Deuce.
The smaller size and added weight force you to stay disciplined with every dribble. Your fingers, wrists and forearms have to work harder, your focus has to be sharper, and there’s zero room for lazy reps.
What I love most is that it still has a realistic bounce, so everything transfers back to a regulation basketball. After just a few minutes with this ball, a normal basketball feels easier to control.
It’s not a gimmick. It’s not magic. It’s simply a great tool that rewards attention to detail.
For players who want tighter handles, better touch and a more intentional warm up, this thing has earned a permanent spot in our gym. Hit the Deuce Brand 🔗 in my bio for 15% off today✌️🔥

1987.
High school Phys Ed camping trip somewhere outside in the woods. We thought we were Rambo🤣🤣
Three days sleeping under the stars. War games against the teachers. Non-stop ball busting. A boombox, and a bunch of North Edmonton kids who thought they knew everything.
Looking back now, we had no idea these would become some of the stories we’d still be laughing about nearly 40 years later.
Definitely a different time back then for sure.
And for the record… judging by the intensity on our faces, you know we dominated the teachers in the war games. 😆🏕️🔥 Most of the teachers didn’t talk to us for the rest of the school year but it was worth it😂😂
Great players do this one thing exceptionally well.
Your eyes can freeze the defender, or get them to lift and be out of position.
