THEY DID IT!!!

The hockey rink was finally opened (and immediately used…sorry to those that wanted the title of first on the rinks, a very high honour to hold).

A nice new addition (and well overdue for years now) to the hockey rinks this year…. Nets with actual netting 😂👍👍. What a concept eh!?!

All three rinks are opened, and while they still need more work, the week & immediatel future looks chilly and snowy, so that should help.

It’s go time Braeside. Enjoy!

By the looks of it today in the early morning hours, it appears like there was some more late night work done by the B.I.G.’s last night.

Pleasure rink is a go, but they’re still working on it to improve it to the high standards Braeside has always has. Word on the street is the hockey rink might be open this weekend if all things go to plan.

Will give you a few shots later today when it’s bright out. Nice to know there’s volunteers out there getting it done for everyone. I’m sure they could use extra hands as well, as they always could.

If you have some free time to help out / volunteer to be a B.I.G. Get in touch with Doug at the BCA

So I decide to try something new and god bless the fact it worked. Took some drone footage of the rinks yesterday, and I’m working on improving this feature once all the rinks are open.

Looks like the pleasure rink might be OK to skate on, but you be the judge. I don’t think they’re ready everywhere yet, and the hockey rink was still locked.

I was able to get some shots of the rink (and draw the attention of some kids playing (without skates😂) on the pleasure rink.

Will have more photos and hopefully videos in the near future. Also have a few people interested in some games already but we have to wait for a nice skating season to begin.

Until then, enjoy the updates. These shots will look a lot better once we can all skate outside again.

It’s that time of year again to be thinking about others. Looks like our neighbours are starting out the Christmas season on the right foot.

Just a little reminder for the Braeside community as well as others around us.

Outdoor ice rinks are not easy to build, create and maintain. Cedarbrae and Braeside would always use more volunteers to help out.

Every year, rinks around the city are built for everyone’s enjoyment off the hard work of volunteers helping to make it happen. Consider helping out in your community or others.

We are looking for a few good volunteers to help the community centre with the outdoor skating rink Maintenance. If you are interested in helping out please call the number below

Without a dedicated group of volunteers, the centre will not be able to maintain the rink that so many enjoy during the winter months

Update: December 1, 2025

It’s by no means ready, and the hockey rink was still locked (understandably) but the Braeside outdoor ice palace seems to be taking shape.

It’s bumpy everywhere, and I wouldn’t recommend skating there yet, but all the rinks seem to have a pretty solid base finally.

Hockey rink is rising up to the running boards so that’s a good sign. Pleasure rink is taking shape, and the kids rink is a little uneven but should be ready soon too by the looks of it.

Mother Nature does hold all the cards, as always. Some other rinks are up & going, but they don’t fight the sun exposure like Braeside. But soon enough, the games and skating will begin for all.

Enjoy. Sincerely

Hello skating fans (and ice skating public in general).

With some snowfall today, it’s the first sign of possibility for ice rinks to start up. But I thought I’d make a request to the general public in Braeside especially.

Does anyone have a sod roller, one that you or your business would not mind lending us to use for packing down some snow? The BCA tool box is absent of this.

Please respond or message us here of the BCA. Not a huge issue but it might be of help in these important early days of rink building. Thanks either way.

Post from Dave Nagel.

Hi folks. I’ll have a message or two later on about the rinks, community center and so on, but today I thought I would share an amazing contrast about the rinks.

Can you believe this was the same date 11 years ago? I’ve stated many times over the years, Mother Nature is undefeated. But there was still ice to skate on and snow to clear back then.

This was before the community added a shield to the snowblower and I had a little friend out there that day chasing me around trying to get in the thick of it all.

HAPPY 🥶 FAMILY DAY 😁, from your Braeside Ice Guardians.

A balmy -20° at noon, but if anyone is a diehard…. All 3 🏒 rinks ⛸️ are swept, and the hockey 🥅 rink has a fresh skim coat on it for your skating pleasure.
