Itâs not every day you get a Thursday off work where you can go to a local magazine shop to buy the latest issue of - especially when youâve been invited to contribute to an article discussing the future of rugby.

The first time I met these two in person was in 2013 when they were in Philadelphia with the New Zealand Maori All Blacks. They are largely responsible for jump starting my rugby analytics journey.
Now, 9 years later we are reunited in London. Both are current leaders in their respective elite environments yet still find time to meet up for a coffee. So grateful that they took a chance to help out a random nerd from Canada.
Fun fact: The first time I was introduced to Jamie was in 2001 when the Dinos menâs team toured England and visited the Leicester Tigers

On The Breakdown this week, the impact of goal line restarts (GLR) is discussed. The Crusaders lead the competition by receiving 6 GLRs. If they were awarded 5m scrums they would be expected to score 15.1 pts. Instead, by receiving GLRs they have scored a net of -2 pts.
Overall GLRs have reduced scoring:
GLR (SR AU) = 1.10 EP
GLR (SR Aotearoa) = 1.44 EP
5m attacking scrum (SR) = 2.52 EP
As spectators, has there been a noticeable difference in ball in play? Should Super Rugby keep this law variation?
The band is getting back together! đ¤
Excited to be working with Tabai Matson on his recurring segment on The Breakdown discussing advanced analytics in Super Rugby Aotearoa.
