IN MEMORY OF DARLENE MCLAUGHLIN

On Wednesday, Little League throughout Canada but especially in Alberta and Calgary lost a treasured member of our team. Darlene McLaughlin, our longtime and beloved District Administrator passed away.

Darlene began her service with District 8 in 1996 when her son Mark began playing baseball. She served as league Secretary and President of Continental West LL (now part of Rocky Mountain LL) before assuming the role of District Administrator for Little League Alberta District 8 in 2003.

Darlene also served on the boards of Little League Canada, Little League Alberta and the Alberta Amateur Baseball Council. In 2012, she was nominated to be the Canadian Field Director on the Little League International Board of Directors, serving a four year term. In recent years she had served as the Alberta Divisional Director and Travel Coordinator for Little League Canada.

Darlene's service to Little League was driven by her unwavering commitment to the children in our communities. She was always there to provide support and mentorship to our leagues and district board. Everyone knew if she took on a task the job would get done. Darlene will be sadly missed, she was an incredible person of integrity and caring.

Our sincere condolences to Darlene's husband Gary, son Mark, daughter-in-law Debbie, and grandchildren Cole, Myles and Georgia.

The Little League program will miss her passion and dedication immensely.

Rest easy, Darlene.

Equipment Donation | Flames Sports Bank 03/21/2025

EQUIPMENT NEEDED AT CALGARY FLAMES SPORTS BANK

Ball season is approaching fast! The Calgary Flames Sports Bank needs your help to collect equipment so they can help as many children as possible. You can help by donating any old equipment in good shape that you have. They are in desperate need of USA or BBcor .50 bats, teenage sized gloves, helmets, back catching equipment (especially catcher gloves), and pants.

Over the last year they have seen an increase in the number of kids who are playing baseball/softball that need equipment. Last season the Flames Sports Bank gave out over 500+ pieces of ball equipment. What can be donated? If it is in good condition and you would be comfortable with your child using it, please donate it.

They are proud to work directly with KidSport Calgary & Area to help make sport more accessible for low-income kids in our community.

Thanks to the Wood Automotive Group, they have 8 different donation locations throughout Calgary and Okotoks you can bring your gear to and they also have a year round drop off bin at the Diamond Dawgs facility in south Calgary.

For more information, please visit their website at:

Equipment Donation | Flames Sports Bank Want to donate sports equipment? Learn how to here! Please keep in mind we are assisting kids aged 18 and under so we are looking for good quality sports gear that we can provide to kids to keep them safe and get them involved in their sport of choice right away.
