A big thank you to Sensei Lyle and the entire Cheney’s Zen Karate & Kickboxing team for organizing another successful Western Canadian Karate Championships. Congratulations on hosting the 46th edition of this great event. 👏
We’d also like to congratulate all of our students who stepped onto the mats this weekend. There were some strong performances, valuable lessons learned, and plenty of opportunities for growth.
One of the biggest highlights for our team was seeing some of our youngest competitors take part in the event. Watching them challenge themselves, support one another, and gain experience reminds us why we do what we do every day.
The future is bright, and we’re excited to continue helping these students grow both on and off the mats.

The beginning of something great ⏳

In our Little Dragons classes, we aim to create strong habits early: respect, listening skills, discipline, teamwork, and confidence.
We also love giving our newer senseis the opportunity to work alongside our senpais and help lead classes. It’s a great way for them to develop leadership, coaching, and communication skills while mentoring the next generation of students.
From student ➝ senpai ➝ sensei, everyone continues to grow together.

Nine members of our dojo had the opportunity to represent Team Alberta at the WKC Nationals as they competed for a spot on Team Canada. The level of competition was incredibly high, with some of the best martial artists from across the country battling for a place in the top 4 of each division.
What stood out most to us wasn’t just the results, but the way our students carried themselves throughout the weekend. Courage, sportsmanship, resilience, humility, and teamwork were on full display. They supported one another through the highs and lows, competed with heart, and embraced every moment both on and off the mats. We couldn’t be prouder of this group.
Congratulations to all of our athletes:
