Role Description

The Horticultural Assistant is an on-site, 16-20hour part-time role located in Calgary, AB. This position involves a variety of tasks to maintain and enhance the landscaping and gardens of Pinebrook Golf & Country Club. Responsibilities include planting, pruning, weeding, watering, fertilizing, and maintaining the aesthetic quality of the grounds. The Horticultural Assistant will work closely with the grounds maintenance team to ensure that the landscape meets the clubâs high standards and remains visually appealing for members and guests.
Qualifications
Â
* Prior experience or knowledge in gardening, horticulture, or grounds maintenance is an asset but not required; training will be provided
* Relevant certifications in horticulture or landscaping are beneficial
* Experience with tools and equipment used in horticulture and landscaping
* Basic landscaping, pruning, pest management and plant identification skills
* Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
* Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high aesthetic standards
* Ability to work collaboratively with a team and maintain a positive work environment
* Reliable transportation to job site

Carnmoney Golf and Country Club is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic gardener to join our team. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, has a passion for gardening, and demonstrates environmental awareness and a willingness to learn, lead, and inspire.
Our horticulture team works closely with the turf care department at Carnmoney Golf and Country Club. We are committed to maintaining a high standard of excellence in both our landscape work and the service we provide to our members.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the implementation of garden and landscape plans
* Perform general garden maintenance and minor site repairs
* Work independently as well as collaboratively with a small crew
* Prune plant material, shrubs, and ornamental plantings
* Monitor plants for pests, insects, and disease
* Perform watering and fertilizer applications
Qualifications
* Valid driverâs licence and reliable transportation
* Working knowledge of horticulture, plant identification, and terminology
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
* Demonstrated safety awareness and customer-focused attitude
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions
This role involves physically demanding outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, fertilizers, and pesticides.
During peak season, working hours are 5:30 AM â 1:30 PM. Shoulder season hours may adjust depending on daylight.

It was a fantastic day at the Olds College of Agriculture & Technology Green Growth Career Fair! It was a wonderful opportunity to meet with students up and coming in the industry and teach them about Golf Course Horticulture! The day was full of questions, enthusiasm and education.
