There’s a few different ways to clip
sometimes depending on if the quickdraw is to your left or right
and other times depending on preference
We recommend that you practice clipping often and repetitively off the wall, especially if you’re new to leading, or it’s the start of the season and you’re feeling a little rusty
so that when you get on the wall, you don’t waste any energy on clipping.
Fiddling with the clip is one of the surest ways to get pumped and also is one of the most dangerous moments in climbing. You have a bunch of slack out to make the clip, but without the clip done you’re looking at a big fall.

Thanks for understanding!
...which can get really spicy on a run-out lead or high ball project.
Taking the time to plan your moves ahead and then executing those moves with presence and precision can be the difference between sending your project and taking a bad fall.
That’s why it’s so important to practice these skills regularly.
