Last weekend, OU team member Dylan and friend Nick explored the Cayoosh backcountry, aiming to climb a route on Cayoosh Dome.

A few of hours of walking in a beautiful subalpine valley leads to the headwall of the valley, which can be easily scrambled climber’s left of the falls.

After a night in a beautiful bivy spot overlooking the Mouse’s Tooth and the valley below, they started on the route. Although they ended up off route, they climbed 3 pitches of beautiful granite and summited the dome via a ridge scramble.

This is a beautiful zone not far from Squamish with a lifetime of climbable stone. Get out there and get exploring!

Friends of OnwardUP, Simon (human) and his pal Rudi (dog), recently returned home from a long journey via bicycle. Rudi shared some of his thoughts on their trip and their impressions of the gear they used:

“Rudi and his human Simon decided they wanted to explore BC, Alberta and the Pacific NW on a cargo bike. They outfitted themselves with some Patagonia clothing and packs and the latest in camping tech from Nemo and off they went.

After 4900km and too many mountain passes they returned, well slept (thank you Nemo Tensor), wide eyed (thank you Sunski), and dry (thank you Patagonia). They enjoyed it so much, they have decided to make it an annual.

I ( Rob) was working at when Patagonia moved to OC. The price of a Patagonia t- shirt went from $25 to $50 Canadian overnight. Minimum wage was $5.50. I was a bit shocked, but then watch a video ( VHS!) of YC saying how they found a better way and have to commit. He shared something along the lines of…”Hopefully it scales and the price can come down. We would rather not sell t-shirts than use conventional cotton”. When I started working for Patagonia 13 years after the launch of the move to 100% organic cotton, the t shirts were $49…less than in 1996. Meanwhile all the competitors were the same price but most were not using OC. That is their (old and current) mission in action!

Meet Dante, our newest team member.

Born in Eastern Ontario, Dante has always been an avid outdoors enthusiast. His passion truly sparked when he began climbing and spending his summers in Canmore while in university, where he achieved a Bachelor of Honours in Commerce and a Minor in Psychology from Carleton University. Driven by a passion to help others get outdoors, Dante gained experience working in outdoor gear retailers in both Ottawa and Canmore. He then became an ACMG/AMGA-accredited climbing instructor, teaching at his local gym while also starting a small business focused on transitioning climbers to the outdoors in the Ottawa area. This passion has led Dante to move to Canmore and to join the team at OnwardUP in 2026, where he continues to share his stoke and assist the community in getting outdoors and up to adventures.
